She held his hand, lying on the bed, waiting for him to speak. But when he didn't talk even after several seconds, she tugged on his arms lightly, taking his support to sit up.
She looked back up at him, her lips pursed in a thin line. "Mr. Aiden Winslow, I don't think I can take this further anymore," she said, drawing in a deep breath. "Everything is feeling too heavy. And I am not the one born to carry loads. So, let's end this."
Aiden froze in that moment. And even though there wasn't enough light to see each other clearly, Arwen still clearly saw his expression darkening —shade after shade —not slowly, but rather in the blink of an eye.
She was momentarily taken aback, but soon composed herself, speaking, "Sit." She tugged on his arm to make him sit on the bed, but he stood firm, not moving even an inch.
Furrowing her brows, she looked at him, only to find his face dark and tight as if he was barely restraining himself.
