-----------
When they arrived in the area last time, Vale and Brit were both ordinary humans. They felt a headache when they met a few zombies. But this time around, things are different. Although Brit is still an ordinary person, Vale has enhanced himself into a superhuman. Now that his strength has become so strong, it is no problem for him to deal with a few zombies. Even if he's missing an arm, it's not that big of an impact. Vale brought down the zombies.
After they were down, Vale looked around, but he didn't see that skinny weirdo again. "Don't run if you have the ability! Damn!"
Then, Vale stomped the ground and quickly ran into the room next to him. In the room, Brit and Kiwo were checking the file of SCP-049. Seeing Vale come in, they looked up at him.
"What is going on? Are you all right?"
"No more injuries?"
Vale shook his head and said with a smile, "It's okay. Compared with those 'With Many Voices' beasts, this thing is too weak!"
Hearing this, the group breathed a sigh of relief as they could probably guess the result. After all, Vale's strength was very strong at the moment. The 'With Many Voices' beasts could be killed, let alone a few zombies. Although the strength of those zombies is not bad, there is a gap in comparison to Vale.
"This is the doctor's file?" Vale looked at the file in Brit's hand, curiosity on his face.
"Yes, look!" Brit nodded and handed the file in his hand to Vale.
Vale looked down; the more he looked at it, the more surprised he became.
[Item #: SCP-049, "Plague Doctor"]
[Object Class: Euclid]
[Description: SCP-049 is a humanoid entity, roughly 1.9 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a medieval plague doctor. While SCP-049 appears to be wearing the thick robes and the ceramic mask indicative of that profession, the garments instead seem to have grown out of SCP-049's body over time1, and are now nearly indistinguishable from whatever form is beneath them. X-rays indicate that despite this, SCP-049 does have a humanoid skeletal structure beneath its outer layer.
SCP-049 is capable of speech in a variety of languages, though tends to prefer English or medieval French2. While SCP-049 is generally cordial and cooperative with Foundation staff, it can become especially irritated or at times outright aggressive if it feels that it is in the presence of what it calls the "Pestilence". Although the exact nature of this Pestilence is currently unknown to Foundation researchers, it does seem to be an issue of immense concern to SCP-049.
SCP-049 will become hostile with individuals it sees as being affected by the Pestilence, often having to be restrained should it encounter such. If left unchecked, SCP-049 will generally attempt to kill any such individual; SCP-049 is capable of causing all biological functions of an organism to cease through direct skin contact. How this occurs is currently unknown, and autopsies of SCP-049's victims have invariably been inconclusive. SCP-049 has expressed frustration or remorse after these killings, indicating that they have done little to kill "The Pestilence", though will usually seek to then perform a crude surgery on the corpse using the implements contained within a black doctor's bag it carries on its person at all times3. While these surgeries are not always "successful", they often result in the creation of instances of SCP-049-2.
SCP-049-2 instances are reanimated corpses that have been operated on by SCP-049. These instances do not seem to retain any of their prior memories or mental functions, having only basic motor skills and response mechanisms. While these instances are generally inactive, moving very little and in a generally ambulatory fashion, they can become extremely aggressive if provoked, or if directed to by SCP-049. SCP-049-2 instances express active biological functions, though these are vastly different from currently understood human physiology. Despite these alterations, SCP-049 often remarks that the subjects have been "cured".]
The whole file is very long, and it took a while for Vale to finish reading. The more he read, the more surprised his expression became. In the end, he couldn't help but widen his eyes and ask in disbelief, "WTF, this thing is a doctor? What kind of insane doctor is this?"
Brit, next to him, shook his head and smiled helplessly. "That's right; the 'Plague Doctor' is like this. Its ability to kill people by touching them is something even the Foundation doesn't know the specific means of."
In fact, not only was Vale surprised, but the others, as well as viewers in the stream, were also taken aback by the abnormal nature of the "Plague Doctor" after reading the file. After all, the ability to kill people by touching them and resurrecting dead bodies through "crude surgery" is bizarre. They began to wonder if the minds of the development team were insane; otherwise, where did these weird entities come from?
"These are fine, but the weirdest thing, I think, is that the 'Plague Doctor's' clothes and mask grow with its body. Don't you think this is terrible?" Kiwo spoke. She rubbed her arms unconsciously, feeling that her goosebumps had risen.
Hearing Kiwo's words, the others were also slightly taken aback and immediately felt that what Kiwo said made sense. Yes, how can anyone's clothes grow out of their own body? It's almost monstrous. Of course, SCP-049 is not a real human being. They don't know what it is; only the developer can know what its core is.
"No matter what it is, we have to beat the game first," Brit said, shaking his head. The others nodded subconsciously.
Afterward, RT said with some confusion, "Mainly from the file, this guy has been clamoring to treat the 'Pestilence,' but what is the 'Pestilence'?"
Vale next to him shook his head and said, "I remember I asked this question last time, and it was the 'Plague Doctor' who answered. And then what did it say? I can't remember, but it probably means that we are too stupid to understand the 'Pestilence.' "
After Vale finished speaking, the others were speechless.
Brit, next to him, also nodded and said, "No one knows what the 'Pestilence' is; in short, Vale and I both have the 'Pestilence' in its eyes. It said it wanted to cure us—well, the kind of treatment that kills you and brings you back to life. Leaving aside the treatment effect, the 'Plague Doctor's' attitude is quite genuine. Perhaps this is its exclusive treatment method? It's just that we can't understand it?"
After Brit finished, the group was dumbfounded for a moment.
"Wtf, it seems quite plausible."
