Chapter 36 - Chapter 33

Locked away in a realm not of Caelest's Earth, she sat watching. For the first time in millennia she'd been outwitted and by the Black Wraith of all people. When she felt his presence, astonishment was not a potent enough word to describe her feelings. She'd never had much faith in the vampire but the necromancer, the concept of its failure had never even crossed her mind. For centuries it'd been one of her most perfect tools. The possibility of losing the girl was a hindrance, however that was not what occupied her mind. She should probably be feeling rage, hate, sorrow, shame. Instead she just grinned. What an interesting existence he was. The Black Wraith, her mind danced around wondering what else he'd live to accomplish.

The Black Wraith found himself in a maelstrom of death and carnage as he clashed across the field of Abyss with possibly the last Abyssfarer in existence. The lacerations tore themselves open across his skin as he battled through a vicious vortex of shadows and mutilated the body of the necromancer. Uncaring of how it effortlessly mended its wounds, and instead taking satisfaction in every glare of rage, grunt of irritation or retreated stumble he received.

Louie dodged a shadow forged battleaxe flying through the air and retaliated with plunging his sword through the necromancers chest and brutally snapping its head round, leaving Orus' shadows to repair torn muscle and shattered bones. While defending himself from the ongoing storm of darkness he recovered his sword and kicked the necromancer back, causing him to stumble further down the battlefield.

The layout of the depot was perfectly engrained in Louie's mind, he knew their exact positions and were he needed to get to. He was close.

Razor sharp claws manifested into the air behind and lacerated his back. Ignoring the pain he shredded them from this world and carried on forward. Not much longer now, he thought. The Black Wraith burst forward without caution and met the Last Necromancer head on, an action everyone would consider suicidal. He forced out heavy and tired breaths and took a shadow through the abdomen, pressing through it with a grunt. He remained motionless, allowing the necromancer to surround him with an army of shadows. Letting Orus lower his guard. As the armada of death came crashing down upon the hunter, Louie reached into his pocket.

He threw out a fine, golden powder into the air. Upon contact with the shadow's darkness it instantly erupted into a violent burst of light. Every spawn of the Abyss in a five-metre radius was erased, leaving only Louie and Orus alone in a, already dimming, dome of light.

The Black Wraith wasted no time, he leapt forth pulling the necromancer into a steel hold before throwing its body across the depot, with perfect aim.

Orus tumbled across the gravel, an ancient growl rumbled in its throat as it stumbled up without any signs of pain or injury.

"You're fighting the inevitable, Wraith," it sighed. As the last glimmers of light faded, it once again channelled its magic and drew the shadows to its side.

A demonic grin spread across the Black Wraith's, shadow shrouded, face. Gleaming below his hellfire eyes. Instantly below the necromancer a circle of intricate and complex runes and patterns began to glow a bright, icy blue. Suddenly more identical circles began to light up across the depot around both Louie and Orus. Within moments all eight markings joined together with thin glowing lines, encasing them inside a domed octagon.

The necromancer's hollow eyes shot wide, and Orus gasped, staggering forward, clutching his chest. Finally it feels pain. The shadows around it seemed to quiver and almost wither and his power and control weaken.

"Clever isn't it. Was a pain in the ass to set up though," Louie stated. "I couldn't have it already activated otherwise you'd have sensed it. So instead I had to trick you into using your own magic to activate the last seal, completing spell. But, that did mean we could add a cage feature to stop you from escaping."

The Last Necromancer stared at the Wraith speechless. For the first time in their fight Louie noticed something new. Fear.

"I imagine you recognise the runes but for my own enjoyment I'll explain it simply," Louie continued speaking. "I've evened the playing field, brought your magic to heel and that immortality you're so fond of was … a fucking pain. So, I got rid of it."

"You waste your time, Wraith. Whether you arise victorious or not, all you will find is failure. If not already the vampire will kill all those you love and take the girl. You've lost," the Last Necromancer finally spoke.

"You shouldn't concern yourself with their fight," The Black Wraith said calmly, twirling his blade. "It's not like you'll live to know the outcome."

Rosa stared up powerless and terrified at the Valdosk's claws. The weapons of her death, shone in the moonlight and seemed so sharp they could shred the very molecules of air around them. She wanted to shut her eyes, hide from her end, but her eye lids were frozen open.

"For Agrezun," Valdosk murmured.

His claws came plummeting down.

However, in that moment something abruptly distracted her from her incoming doom. A pleasant whistling flowed through the air. Its calming and familiar sound soothed Rosa's mind even as her death approached.

Suddenly a dagger shot through the sky and pierced Valdosk's hand. The vampire recoiled back, snarling as his skin smoked and seared against the enchanted blade. The vampire gripped the daggers handle and ripped the steel from his flesh.

"If you send that flying, I promise to give such a horrific death it'll haunt your kind for generations," a voice stated. Suddenly, the sound of gunfire engulfed the air and was quickly followed by the pained and dying screams of camaz.

Rosa turned to see the messy black hair and scarred face of Max Seis. While his left hand was empty, his right held an identical dagger to the one in Valdosk's hand. Behind him she could see a squadron of hunters charging into the swarm of camaz. In mere moments, the remaining army of camaz they'd struggled so valiantly against was being slaughtered effortlessly, Rosa doubted that there'd be single monster left standing after a minute. Her eyes drifted back to Seis. He winked as he wandered past her with a comforting grin plastered to his face. Were they saved? Rosa had no idea how skilled Seis was but she had witnessed Valdosk take down Emma, Audrey and the commander Ruthor. Would Seis be able to kill the vampire lord?

Seis stopped in front of Rosa, blocking off Valdosk's path to her, he calmly held out his empty hand.

"I believe you have something that belongs to me," he said.

With a feral snarl Valdosk chucked the dagger off to the side.

"Dick," Seis grumbled.

Valdosk pounced, becoming a blur Rosa could hardly track. Seis matched his speed, no, maybe even surpassed it. With a casual flick of the hunters hand an invisible force gently carried Rosa away from the fight and Seis stepped forward to meet the vampire lord. He ducked beneath Valdosk's swipe and with his remaining dagger slashed its razor edge across the vampire's throat. While too shallow to decapitate the monster it did still reward a pained cry and billows of smoke poured out from the wound trying to heal itself.

"Vis," Seis chanted and thrust his empty palm forward.

A crushing force slammed into Valdosk launching the vampire back. He was back up in moments, more rageful than ever. Instantly he advanced towards the hunter but, Seis made no action to defend himself. Instead he just sighed, as if he was disappointed.

"As much as I'd have loved to be the one to kill you," Seis gestured behind the vampire, "he called dibs."

Everyone glanced behind Valdosk. Standing tall, powerful and not to mention terrifying with his enormous sword was Zack Griffin. His smile was nowhere to be seen and his angelic eyes burned cold.
