She looked so distressed, her eyes wide as if something terrible had happened. "He never celebrates it, I know, but still… what kind of mother forgets her son's birthday?! I didn't even call him yet, or send anything, and I've been so caught up with other things, I thought maybe everyone else forgot too and he'd end up alone today!"
Rose's expression changed as she stood up. "Mom… calm down. Breathe."
Ana looked at her helplessly. "Do you think he'll be hurt? I know he acts like he doesn't care, but he's always been like that…quiet, keeping things to himself. What if deep inside he actually wanted someone to remember?"
Rose smiled. "Don't worry. I didn't forget. I sent Brother a gift earlier today, remember? I asked one of the guards to make sure it reaches him. And besides…"
She paused, her smile widening as she thought of her brother. "He's not alone this year, Mom. He's with Sister Lilith. Don't you think she has something planned for him?"
