In the era of nations, Japan once was one of the most developed countries in the world and even became the second-largest capitalist economic power for a time until the 1990s when its economy entered a prolonged slump, facing severe social issues like aging and declining birthrates.
Today, although Japan has resolved these issues, it couldn't withstand the onslaught of the "destroy" virus alone. It was the biggest calamity humanity had ever faced, so, with no other choice, Japan sought refuge with its "sugar daddy," the United States, and joined the American Alliance as one of its states.
Compared to other states in the American Alliance, Japan held a much more prestigious position. Its central city, Tokyo, still firmly occupied one of the seats as one of the four major global cities.
