Cherreads

Chapter 65 - Chapter 7

The salt-laced air whipped through the seaside town, carrying with it the scent of blooming jasmine and fried seafood. It was the last day of Stray Kids' spring break, and a bittersweet energy hung in the air. Seven days had flown by in a whirlwind of laughter, shared secrets, and sun-kissed memories.

The polycule dynamics of the group had added an extra layer of warmth to their adventure. Lee Know, Han, and I.N were an inseparable trio, their playful banter and quiet affection a constant source of amusement for the others. Bang Chan and Hyunjin, the leaders and visual kings, found comfort in each other's steady presence, their love a calm anchor amidst the chaos. And Felix, Seungmin, and Changbin, a chaotic whirlwind of energy, balanced each other perfectly, their bond a tapestry woven with affection and playful teasing.

The morning of day seven dawned with a promise of sunshine. Bang Chan, ever the early riser, was already brewing coffee on the small stove in their rented beach house. The aroma drifted through the rooms, coaxing the others awake.

"Morning, sleepyheads!" he called out, a warm smile gracing his face as Hyunjin shuffled into the kitchen, hair adorably tangled.

"Morning, Channie," Hyunjin mumbled, leaning in for a kiss. "What's the plan for our last day?"

"I was thinking we hit the beach one last time," Chan replied, handing him a mug. "Maybe try that surfing lesson we were talking about?"

The idea was met with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Lee Know, Han, and I.N were already mentally shredding waves, while Felix, Seungmin, and Changbin debated the merits of building a monumental sandcastle instead. Hyunjin was content as long as he was near Chan, and the leader just wanted everyone to have a good time.

After a quick breakfast of toast and fruit, they piled into their rented van, a rainbow of personalities crammed into the small space. The playlist was a chaotic mix of Stray Kids' own discography and random pop songs, everyone belting out the lyrics (or at least attempting to) with the windows down.

The beach was bustling with activity. Families built sandcastles, couples strolled hand-in-hand, and surfers sliced through the waves. Stray Kids found a relatively secluded spot and set up camp. Lee Know, Han, and I.N immediately charged into the water, their screams of exhilaration echoing across the sand.

Bang Chan, after applying a generous amount of sunscreen, convinced a hesitant Hyunjin to join him for the surfing lesson. The ensuing hour was a comedy of errors. Hyunjin, despite his graceful stage presence, proved to be remarkably uncoordinated on a surfboard, much to the amusement of the others. Chan, ever patient, offered encouragement and guidance, his hand steadying Hyunjin's back as he attempted to stand.

Felix, Seungmin, and Changbin, meanwhile, were engaged in a fierce sandcastle competition. Their creation was a monstrous fortress, complete with meticulously crafted turrets, moats, and even a tiny flag bearing the Stray Kids logo.

As the afternoon wore on, the sun began to dip towards the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple. They gathered around a crackling bonfire, the flames casting dancing shadows on their faces. Someone produced a bag of marshmallows, and soon, sticky fingers and sugary grins were everywhere.

"This was the best spring break ever," I.N said, his voice soft as he leaned against Han.

"Definitely needed this," Han agreed, intertwining his fingers with Lee Know's. "Feels like we haven't just had fun in forever."

"We work hard, we deserve it," Lee Know stated and pulled them both into a hug, kissing their heads lovingly.

"Yeah, no schedules, no pressure, just...us," Felix added, his voice tinged with emotion. He squeezed Changbin's hand and smiled at Seungmin.

Changbin nodded in agreement. "It's been so good to just relax and be ourselves. Away from the cameras and the expectations. I feel like we got closer as a group."

"We always do," Chan said, his gaze sweeping across the group. "We're a family."

A comfortable silence fell over them, broken only by the crackling fire and the gentle lapping of the waves. Each member was lost in their thoughts, cherishing the memories they had made.

As the last embers of the fire died down, they packed up their belongings, a sense of melancholy settling over them. They knew that tomorrow, they would be back in the whirlwind of schedules and responsibilities. But they also knew that they would carry the warmth of this vacation with them, a reminder of the bond that held them together.

The next morning, the beach house felt strangely empty. The scent of coffee and sunscreen lingered in the air, a ghost of the joy that had filled the space just hours before. They ate a quick breakfast, their movements subdued, and loaded their luggage into the van.

The drive to the airport was quiet, punctuated by the occasional sigh or shared glance. As they went to the airport, each member was lost in their own thoughts, cherishing the memories they had made. They reminisced about their best moments of the trip;

Lee Know laughed with Han and I.N over their coordinated surfing wipe-outs.

"Remember that time I lost my balance and face-planted right in front of that cute lifeguard?" Lee Know said. "I swear, Han and I.N didn't let me live it down for hours."

"And the lifeguard winked at you," Han added, grinning mischievously. "You were blushing so hard!"

"He was probably just trying to be nice," Lee Know protested, but he couldn't help smiling.

Bang Chan and Hyunjin exchanged fond glances, remembering their attempt to build their sandcastle, where Hyunjin got more sand in his eyes than on the castle.

"Honey remember you kept complaining about the sand getting into your eyes and hair?" Chan smiled. "I remember trying to keep the sand out of your hair as much as possible so you wouldn't complain."

"I was trying so hard to help," Hyunjin said, feigning innocence. "But then I'd move one grain of sand, and ten more would end up stuck to my eyelashes."

Felix, Seungmin, and Changbin shared a look of amusement when they remembered all of their bickering about their food.

"Remember when we were arguing about whether to order pizza or fried chicken?" Felix said, giggling. "I swear, we were about to start a war over dinner."

"And then we ended up ordering both," Seungmin added, shaking his head. "We're so indecisive."

"But we always end up with the best food," Changbin concluded, patting his stomach contentedly.

As they arrived at the airport, Chan gathered everyone together. "Alright, guys," he said, his voice filled with sincerity. "Let's go back home refreshed, and work hard on this next comeback"

They all nodded in agreement, a renewed sense of purpose filling them. They knew that the road ahead would be challenging, but they also knew that they had each other. And that, they realized, was all that truly mattered.

As they walked through the airport, a wave of exhaustion washed over them, but they were all determined to make this year more successful than the last.

It was time to go home.
