Chapter 67 - chapter 67

The guild building was not located at the centre of the city, in the location where bars, taverns, and inns were located, since those are the types of places adventurers visit frequently.

The building also had multiple entrances. There was an entrance for adventurers who wanted to take a quest. This was the main entrance that was used by adventurers.

Then there was an employee entrance, which was located in the alley between the tavern on the side, flanking the guild and the guild itself.

Then there was the back entrance, which was significantly larger than the main entrance and was reserved for adventurers who were bringing in large monsters after completing a quest.

Eon entered the back entrance, the cockatrice on his shoulders before he slammed to the floor.

"BAM! Here's a cockatrice. Now, someone up my rank, already"

Eon shouted with gusto and alerting the workers who had been having a slow day today.

"Holy shit, it is a cockatrice! You don't see that every day"

One of the workers shouted as they began to walk towards the dead creature. In terms of rarity, they weren't that rare. However, that didn't mean they were common either.

"Cock! Hahaha!"

Another worker made a joke and then started laughing at his own joke and earned an eye roll from his colleagues.

"By the gods, Mike, grow up!"

"Oh shut Up Jack, it's funny"

Jack once again rolled his eyes and decided to ignore his immature co-worker, the two men were Butchers and were in charge of dissecting and dismantling monsters.

"I see you completed another rank-up quest, you've been on a streak this month, Mr Eon"

Jack addressed Eon, giving the young man and Reniris a nod as a greeting. Eon returned the nod, and Reniris gave the man a wave of her hand as a greeting.

"Meh it ain't all that, plus all the monsters are hardly on my level, and stop calling me Mr, you're literally 40"

"No can do Young man, gotta respect the man who makes my job possible"

Monsters usually have multiple parts that can be used for various things, Hence why dismantling the monster is necessary, for instance, the cockatrice has a steel beak and claws, and those parts can be used to fashion a weapon, it's skin is tough and thus can be used as a type of leather either for armour or for furniture, the same can be said for its bones.

There was also the fact that natural monsters have mana crystals within them; this is theorized it's due to them absorbing mana; once absorbed, the mana crystallises and remains in the body.

This mana crystal is what gives certain monsters their signature abilities, like the cockatrice's ability to freeze its opponents for 10 seconds.

Mana crystals are also quite valuable. They can be useful to mages since they're just a crystallised form of mana, and with the proper rune applied to the mana crystal, it can be used to either heat up appliances or light up a room; most inns also use them as light sources.

The cockatrice resembles a chicken, so its insides and guts can be eaten or fed to other creatures if someone happens to be a monster tamer or summoner.

"Ugh! Do whatever you want"

Eon would have been more insistent on the issue, but for some reason, the old man just didn't stop; it felt so weird being called "Mister" by a man twice his age.

"It's not a bad thing, Mr Jack here is just expressing his gratitude, I think it shows his wisdom as he knows who to thank and be grateful to"

Reniris chimed in, supporting the older man's politeness and Eon could only shrug in surrender.

"Oh Miss Reniris, always so wise with your words, you're completely right, us Butchers live off the hard work of adventurers much like yourself, it's only right that we are grateful"

Mike quickly shoved himself into the conversation and explained, His words causing Reniris to nod, agreeing with the man; of course, Both Eon and Jack were aware that Mike was just saying all that.

"Exactly right, there's nothing wrong with expressing gratitude"

Reniris concurred with the short man. Eon rolled his eyes; this was a side of Reniris he didn't expect; she liked having her ego stroked; he had expected her to be more humble, but then again, should he make her upset giving her compliments should work in his favour.

"Oh, you're completely right. Your beauty and wisdom are truly magnificent"

"Mike, you have a wife!"

"She's divorcing me, Jack!"

Mike immediately retorted and shut down Jack's argument and surprising Eon in the process.

"Damn that's crazy, but don't play with fire, Mike"

Eon warned, as he and Reniris walked off and made their way towards the reception desk. Interestingly enough, this side of the reception was not as crowded as the front side.

"Mr Eon, before we rank you up, you have some Challengers. Would you like to deal with them first?"

The receptionist informed as soon as the two made it to her desk and Eon hummed in contemplation.

"Hey Ren, wanna see me stunt on these fools?"

He asked jokingly and filled with confidence, he also had a cocky and wide grin on his face.

"No, I'll be at the library"

"You're always at the library, come on! What about ranking up?"

"Of course, I'm always at the library, someone has to learn healing magic, plus, the ranking up was a thing you wanted, I'm perfectly fine with my rank"

She explained and Eon couldn't help but shrug.

"Alright fine, catch you later then"

He said and the two parted ways for the day, with Reniris headed towards the library.

Reniris has been trying to learn healing magic since Eon doesn't heal as fast as her; however, unfortunately, she hasn't found much useful information about that; the best she's found is how mana behaves differently in both mages and warriors, which was something she already knew.

So, at the moment, she is simply looking at whatever book that's tangibly related to healing magic.

"Actually, it's fine I'll watch, you do make us money with this so, I'm obligated to"

She quickly turned and backtracked on her words.

"Look Ren, You don't have to do anything you don't want to"

"No it's fine I want to"

She corrected; the reason she changed her mind was mostly because she realised that she probably wouldn't get much information on healing magic in this city, and any books directly related to it would probably be in the capital.

There's also the fact she enjoys watching Eon shirtless but she'd never let him know that.

"Well let's go then"

Pleased by her willingness, there's nothing better than showing off in front of the person you like. Although he never had a girlfriend I'

in his past life, he did have plenty of crushes that he never confessed to.

Unfortunately, he never had any skills worth showing off; unless yapping about why anime character x beats character Y was a skill worth showing off, he didn't think it was.

Gambling is technically illegal within the Hendrix Kingdom, however, if one has a permit given directly by the lord of whatever territory they're in, then it's completely legal, but you have to pay a small fine to the lord, and you're taxed 10% of the profits you make from gambling.

By doing all that, you can conduct your business legally; of course, there are a few rules, but the one that you need to follow strictly is the rule of no death matches or roulettes where participants can die.

When Eon declared himself the strongest man, the fights usually took place within the guild's testing room, where they tested the fighting abilities of new adventures, however as it got popular and people started betting more, the guild had to create space for spectators, so they decided to have the matches outside the city.

And now Eon was here, surrounded by spectators cheering and jeering at him as he faced an opponent that thought he didn't deserve the title of "strongest Man" which is exactly what he wanted.

Eon quickly moved his head to the side, dodging the jab. However, his opponent followed up with a hook that Eon blocked and grabbed before pulling the man close and giving him a headbutt to the nose, causing the man to stagger back a few steps.

Eon didn't let him recover before he quickly got close and launched a barrage of attacks.

First, it was an open-palm slap to the man's face with his right hand, and he followed that up with another slap using his left hand. The man, in his disoriented state, tried to throw a punch, but Eon parried and delivered another slap, further pushing him back.

Eon then gave him a punch to the gut forcing the man to bend forward before, using his knee to kick the man and forced him to stand up straight, Eon then followed this up with a jab to the nose and a palm strike to the man's chest pushing him back and the a right hook to the jaw and knocked the man out.

The opponent dropped to his knees and slumped to the floor and Eon won his third match of the day.

The crowd that bet on him to win cheered, while that bet against seethed and punched the air in anger.

"Alright who's next, come on, I've barely worked up a sweat"

Eon expressed as he jumped up and down like a boxer.
