Kai was asleep on his couch when he suddenly heard a knock on his front door. After a few minutes, he awoke and opened the door. "H-huh, what are you doing here so late, Nico?" Nico looked around before sighing for a moment and looked at Kai in the eyes. "It's dad, he's been missing for a little over a week."
Kai looked puzzled at that information, and looked at the time, on the clock above the door frame. "Nico, It's 2 in the morning and I haven't seen you in over three years, and you woke me up just because it's taking him longer on a hunt?" Nico stood there for a moment and licked his lips slightly before opening his mouth again, "He went on a hunt, and it's been over a week." Kai's eyes opened wide after hearing that for a moment before getting his thoughts back together. "Well, how about you go and find him, then? Because I'm done with all of this hunting, and you know it."
Nico heard those words and was a bit doubtful to himself about going there to tell Kai about any of it. But, he regained his composure quickly. "I need your help man, you know I wouldn't be here if I didn't. I wanted to leave you out of all this… however, I want your help on this and I don't want to do this alone at all for searching for him."
Kai sighs deeply and leaves the door open before going to his bedroom and grabs a bag and puts clothes inside with a bottle of whiskey at the top and exits his room and closed the door behind him. "Alright then, only because it's for you, brother. But, I only want this to continue for a month before you drop me off here again, alright?" Nico smiled slightly and replied with a nod before grabbing his keys and walks down the stairs to the car with Kai following. Once they get into the car, they lock the doors, start the car, and drives off towards their dad's last location. "Eureka, Nevada."
After over a day worth of driving, they arrive in the city and booked a motel.
"Well, here we are. Let's sleep like hell for a while and then look for him." Kai said, half asleep on one of the queen size beds within the room. "I guess you're right, there won't be much we can do if we're this tired." Nico said before laying down on the other queen-sized bed before falling asleep. After seven hours of sleeping they both awoke suddenly to a knock at the door, Nico got up and opened the door to see nobody but a note.
Nico picked up the note and looked around outside before closing the door to the motel room and opens it and begins to read it. "Old house, basement, under the stairs to the right. Get it, open it, and leave town." Nico read aloud. "Kai! This note… It's from dad. It has to be." Kai looked over and got up out of bed and got ready within five minutes. "We have to go then, right? To the old house in New York." Nico, and Kai sighed slightly before leaving the motel room and walks to their car Nico was left with from their dad, which was a 1968 Dodge Charger. They both got into the car and left the parking lot, heading to New York.
On the way, they stopped at a gas station and Kai walked into the station. While inside, he picked up some newspapers before turning it over and reading about 3 people found dead in an apartment building. Within the same room number over the past 2 months.
Kai walks back to the car and gets in. "So, I was in the station and I found this "3 people found dead within the same apartment room over the past 2 months. Should we check it out?" Nico looked over at him after putting getting back into the car. "Sure does sound like something for us. Let's check it out, I guess? Where is it?" Kai looks at the newspaper, "Uhh It's on the other side of the country up in Washington." Nico sighed, "Let's just leave it be and go to the old house, then head there." Nico started the car and drives off towards New York again.
After hours of driving, they arrive at the old house, and they see a car in the driveway and lights on. "Huh, I never thought dad sold the house." "Well, I'm not sure at all, honestly. Never really had contact after I left for college."
Nico sighed and got out of the car and went up to knock on the door.
Someone in their mid-40s opened the door, "Hi there uh… anyway may I help you with anything?"
Nico takes a small look around from the open door before replying, "Yes, hi my name is Nico Torn and me and my brother used to live here and were wondering if we could like to look around the house for old memory sake."
"Uh, I wouldn't mind it at all, but can I see some type of ID of some sort?" Nico pulled out an ID card and shows the man and he replied "Hm, alright, then I don't mind at all. Come on in" The man opens the door all the way. After a few moments Kai walked up to the house and walked in, following Nico in and closing the door.
Nico and Kai started to look around the house for a few minutes, "I'll keep him distracted, and you go down there to the basement and find out what's going on in the basement." Kai replied "Alright." Kai left the room and headed down to the basement while Nico talked to the man. "So, what's your name if you don't mind me asking, and how have you been holding the house since you moved in?"
"Well, my name is Jimmy and the house has been well pretty good honestly. Though, It also has had a few weird things every once in a while, like lights flickering, but that's just because I keep on forgetting to call the electrician here." Jimmy said, sitting down in an old recliner chair. Nico looked around the living room for a moment, "It does look good, I'll admit. I like what you did, though it does feel weird seeing it all changed."
They both laughed for a moment as Kai walked back up the stairs and began to walk out of the house with his hands in his pockets. "It seems it's time for us to go Jimmy, it was a pleasure meeting you. Keep the place up to date will ya?" "Don't worry, I'll keep the place up perfectly as I see fit." Jimmy replied while opening his beer, he had sitting on the small table next to him. Nico and Kai walked out of the house and got back into the car. "So, what was in the box or whatever it was?" Kai looked down at his pocket and pulled out a small brown box with a symbol on it. "If I have to say anything, I'd assume it has something to do with the whole mysterious creatures in dad's journal."
"A symbol, huh?" Nico looked over at the box and sighed before starting the car and drove off. "Open the box and let's see what's in there man." Kai opened the box using a key that came with the box and took a small note out of the box with coordinates on it. "It's a note with coordinates on it… there's nothing saying what it could be though at the location. I'll look it up, I guess." "Well, no shit you should look it up if it's something dad left us maybe he had this planned and wanted us to go help him or something." Kai entered the coordinates on his phone and pulled up a location of a cabin in Washington. "It looks like some sort of house or possibly a cabin in the woods, but it's in Washington… that's quite a distance from us, but I guess that's our next stop?" Nico looked over at Kai while driving. "Hell yeah it's the next stop." Nico proceeded to turn the music up and kept driving
