The demise of the hero Valerie was of course caused by forces acting outside of the world. There were 12 people directly under Valerie in strength and they were called the saints.
Each of them were given a name based on their nature. Each of the saints of course left a legacy for the next one.
The reason Julius settled for the sword saint's legacy was because it was the closest and fastest way for him right now to grow his strength. And also because it had much significance in the novel.
Julius was thrown into deeper part of the cave and it seemed to just be spherical space with a flat land.
Julius looked around and saw bones of possibly humans like him who have perished during this trial.
The cave was like a normal cave with torches hanging from the walls. The crackling of flames and the crunching of bones under his feet were the only things he could hear right now.
He looked up to the entrance of the cave and saw Pilgrim looking down at him.
