The woman pushed past Kai like she owned the place, her boots echoing against the concrete floor. She gave the warehouse a once-over, wrinkling her nose like the dust offended her. The dim light flickered, casting jagged shadows across the walls, but she walked through them like she belonged to the darkness.
Zina clutched Asher tighter, her knuckles turning white. "Who is she?"
Kai flopped back onto the chair, completely unfazed, like this was just another Tuesday. "This is Nova. She's... complicated."
Nova rolled her eyes, brushing her dark hair over her shoulder. "I'm the reason you're still breathing." She turned to me, her gaze sharp and unflinching. "And judging by that knife, I'm guessing you're the paranoid one."
I didn't lower the blade. My chest heaved, adrenaline still rushing through me after everything that had happened. "You show up in the middle of the night, uninvited, and I'm supposed to be friendly?"
