Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

"I want to help..."

I looked back at Ezra, tearing my eyes away from the lightsaber hilt that I was making for myself, and raised an eyebrow at him.

Things have been quiet since we came back from the temple that I wasn't too keen on going to again.

Things were... It was tense, to say the least, and neither of us was talking about our experiences there. From what I saw, I suspected Ezra saw something similar, or worse, I didn't know.

"With the hilt?"

I asked, turning back to it as I levitated the batteries into it. I had a general idea of how to make the hilts since the parts were very specific on which complementary part would attach to it.

"No, I mean in general. Take me out there with you."

I paused, blinking. Taking him out there? Where did he get that Idea?

"No, what I do is dangerous..."

I denied that request, of course, I would. I wasn't about to take him somewhere where he could get shot, he had no training.

"Why not? I can help!"

I sighed, looking over my shoulder at him.

"How can you help?"

He looked offended at that, hesitating for a moment as his eyes took on a haunted look.

"I can use the force too!"

My eyebrows furrowed as I stared at him.

"You're not going out with me on raids, Ezra, you have no training."

That seemed to only irritate him more as he stepped closer to the table, placing his hands on the smooth surface and leaning slightly forward to get in the way of my line of sight that I was keeping straight on the hilt.

"But I do! You trained me! I can be useful!"

I turned my head to him, eyeing his expression for a few seconds. Why was he so determined to go out there, in danger, and help me when I didn't need any?

Why was he so stubborn?

"I trained you to defend yourself, not because I wanted you to tag along with me eventually."

I sighed and went back to making the hilt, floating the holding chamber of the crystal to connect it to the battery and the power focuser, or at least, that's what I was calling it, I had no idea what the name was.

"But I want to!"

I put the lightsaber hilt on the table and turned to him fully, narrowing my eyes at his stubbornness.

"You can decide that when you're older."

I leaned back in my seat, raising an eyebrow as he frowned harder.

"But you're just two years older than me! How do you know any better?!"

I blinked at him for a second, processing that. That was right, I was only, two years older than him, but how would I explain to a child that I was mentally 19 since the day I was born?

"That's not the point, I wouldn't have you raised on scraps."

I shot back, my irritation growing slightly, this must have been how parents felt when their kids went into their rebellious phase, because... What the fuck was this?

"Then let me help! We can get more if there are two of us!"

I sighed, raising my hand to rub the bridge of my nose. I wasn't in the mood for this right now. I had the lightsaber to finish, a job to do for one of my contacts, and to restock the food we used up on that five-day trip along with the fuel

This wasn't the best time to have an argument and say something I really didn't want to.

"Ezra, We can talk about this later, Alright?"

I muttered, turning back to the hilt, using the Force to levitate one of the casings that felt comfortable in my hand to encase the inner mechanisms of the hilt, which was weirdly enough, the bottom halves of two casings, meaning the lightsaber didn't have an opening the blade itself could come out of.

This had a decent chance of exploding in my hand, I would not delude myself into thinking that I was a master lightsaber builder, so activating it would have to be done outside.

And the problem of there being no openings for the blade to come out of would be solved by itself.

It wouldn't look pretty, but if it didn't explode, it would work.

Picking up the hilt from the air, I stood up, heading towards the door. Taking myself out of the situation would be for the best.

Both of us were still tense from the temple, and if I didn't calm down, it would come back to bite me in the ass.
