Chapter 267 - Chapter 5: Japan Sinks

As the two girls, who claimed to be Wind Spirits, left, the wind that had swept over much of Tokyo disappeared, and the sky quickly returned to its original state.

Meanwhile, Denji and Power remained standing at the same spot, seemingly waiting for something.

After about twenty minutes, a black car, belonging to a government agency and the Public Security Division, pulled up beside them.

The car door opened, and a woman dressed in a black and white uniform stepped out.

She was a simple-looking woman.

No unnecessary jewelry adorned her, her face bore no makeup, and her hair was simply tied into a ponytail.

However, her curvaceous figure and the gentle aura she exuded were almost magnetic, making it hard for anyone not to be entranced by her.

"Makima-sama!"

Upon seeing the woman, Denji immediately broke into a wide, smug grin, running over to greet her.

Power followed behind, though she didn't particularly like this woman. Every time she interacted with Makima, there was a strange sense of unease. But this time, she hadn't made any mistakes, so she didn't feel guilty.

"Denji, Power, you two are the Devil hunters who had contact with those two newly appeared Devils?"

Makima seemed surprised by their presence.

However, her expression didn't show much emotion. She simply greeted them calmly.

She was the head of the Public Security's Anti-Devil Action Section Four, a relatively high-ranking official responsible for managing Devil-related disasters in the Tokyo region.

Upon receiving an urgent dispatch from the intelligence department about the appearance of two powerful Devils in Tokyo's skies, and their ensuing battle that caused great panic among Tokyo's citizens, she had come here to talk with nearby Devil hunters and collect intelligence.

Seeing that the Devil hunters she was meeting with were her subordinates, Makima skipped the usual steps and directly asked, "Can you tell me some information about those two Devils?"

"I'm not sure if they're Devils, but those strange beings claim to be spirits," Denji scratched his head. "They seem to be Wind Spirits. When I interacted with them, they were fighting each other. It seems like they don't get along very well."

"They are definitely Devils, I can smell it," Power added. "Those two are definitely not human. And their scent is intoxicating. Just a whiff makes me feel high!"

"But why would Devils call themselves spirits?"

"Maybe they don't like being called Devils. Anyway, it's just a name. If I wanted, I could even call myself the Blood Queen!"

"Since Power says so, then they must be Devils," Makima nodded. "So, the one calling itself a Wind Spirit, what about the other one?"

"The other one also calls herself a Wind Spirit."

"Two Wind Spirits?" Makima raised an eyebrow. "That's interesting."

Devils are born from human fears.

Since they claim to be Wind Spirits, their true names are likely related to wind.

This could be inferred from the storm they created when they appeared in Tokyo.

Wind is an essential, ever-present natural phenomenon on Earth.

At times, the disasters it causes are also unstoppable for humans.

Tsunamis, earthquakes, and violent winds are deeply ingrained fears in the human psyche.

Devils born from such concepts are naturally no weaklings.

Soon, as if thinking of something, Makima asked, "Are you sure they called themselves Wind Spirits? Not something like Tornado Spirits? Or Hurricane Spirits?"

Denji and Power both shook their heads.

Seeing this, Makima fell into thought and didn't ask any more questions, her mind seemingly preoccupied.

Different Devils have different powers and abilities.

What determines the strength of a Devil is not only how much fear humans have for them but also their rank.

Tornadoes, hurricanes, sandstorms—these are all things humans fear, and Devils born from these concepts are certainly not to be underestimated.

But these Devils' ranks are typically mid-tier or even low-tier.

However, if the true nature of those two Devils is just Wind Devils, without any additional titles...

Makima's eyes subtly shifted.

That would mean they are top-tier Devils.

Devils born from the fundamental elements that form the world.

Fire, water, earth, lightning, wind, light, darkness...

These Devils, born from elemental concepts, are well-known even in the hells, where powerhouses abound.

Their rank could rival even Makima, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the Devil of [Control].

But if their true identities were indeed Wind Devils, why would they appear in the human world?

It's known that Devils cannot simply appear in the human world at will.

Only Devils killed in hell, who lost their place there, can descend into the human world.

What's even stranger is that even if they are truly Wind Devils, why are there two of them?

This was something Makima had never heard of or seen before.

She then asked Denji and Power many more questions to gather more details about the situation.

However, the conversation between the two Wind Spirits and the Devil hunters was brief.

Although their true identities remained unclear, Makima was still able to gather some useful information.

"Both of them look identical, and their appearance is very human-like..." Makima thought. "And it seems they're rivals, trying to eliminate the other to claim the title of Wind Spirit?"

The information she gathered was fragmented, unable to form a complete picture.

So Makima decided to put the matter aside for now.

"The Public Security will follow up on this. You've done well," Makima said. "Continue your patrol. Although the two Devils who caused the commotion are now gone, other Devils will likely appear amidst the chaos."

"Ohhh, I'm already starving!"

"Yes, Makima-sama!"

The two Devil hunters quickly left the area and continued their work.

Makima also returned to her car, preparing to report the situation.

She was taking this matter very seriously.

If the true identities of these Devils were elemental Devils, the arrival of such high-ranking beings in the human world could potentially interfere with her plans.

So she needed to clarify the identities of these two Devils as soon as possible.

"Natural disaster warning?"

Just as Makima opened her phone to contact her connections within the government, the glaring warning displayed on the screen caught her attention.

Japan, an island nation prone to disasters.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, and storms were nothing new to the country.

Therefore, Japan had a highly developed early warning system.

"Due to the formation of two unknown storm eyes over the Pacific, the coastal regions of Japan are under a red windstorm warning, and the strong winds have caused tsunamis. Emergency evacuation measures have already been implemented... Even the earth's crust has been affected, with a potential for earthquakes?"

Seeing the three disaster icons lit up simultaneously, resembling the situation from the movie Japan Sinks, Makima put down her phone and let out a faint sigh.

To be capable of such destruction, the true identities of these Devils were no longer in question.

"Schedule change. I'm heading to the Cabinet Office."

With this unexpected variable entering the game, Makima's expression didn't change in the slightest, and her voice remained as cold as ever.

"I need to talk to those high-ranking officials about our next steps."
