Chapter 131 - CHAPTER 130

THE PATH THROUGH THE dark TUNNELS was difficult, the light from the lanterns only allowed a glimpse of what was ahead, and it was not known what or who they might find ahead. As they walked, Kenan spoke:

— Kenagan, we need to know what the next step is.

Floyd Kenagan seemed to be no longer able to resist the fatigue, his gaze weighed even more heavily on his face adorned with scratches that faded the red of blood in the sweat that dripped from his forehead. But such was his sense of duty that even in that extreme state, he remained absorbed in his concentration. Still hesitant, he answered:

— I believe our primary concern at the moment is your safety, sir.

— Security? — Kenan asked, clearly irritated. — I was protected by the best National Security agents, supplied with the best defensive technology equipment and covered by an entire highly trained advisory team, when an unknown person manages to delay this entire system, launch an attack that we still have no idea what it is and almost kill me, using my own team as a weapon. Tell me, Kenagan, how can you guarantee my safety?

— I don't understand what you're getting at, sir — the FBI Inspector General replied, embarrassed.

Everyone listened to the conversation in silence and Tommy, seeing the disparate situation in which the inspector found himself, was able for the first time to feel sorry for him. Kenan continued:

— I'm saying that we, that entire team, my government, have been subjugated in every way! And we're just running away, like cowardly dogs... We need to fight back urgently!

— Yes, sir — Floyd replied, humiliated. — I am trying to find this strategy, but so far there is nothing tangible...

Floyd looked at Greg who nodded.

— I'm waiting for a response from my assistant, sir, I believe we're not running blind.

— Greg, don't make me lose my patience...

— You won't lose, sir... we have many open points, I believe that in a short time we will gather these points and counterattack.

— I am surprised at how Democracy knows how to choose its representatives... thanks to it, you are not in my place. It is clear that these attacks are in response to the policy I have been exercising externally. To back down from the process would be to admit defeat to these unfortunates. These damned people! I believe that our best option is to continue with our objectives decided in the last meeting...

— So you mean...

— Yes. This is the best time to get international support, I will not let this opportunity pass me by.
