Betrayed by Blood
Avery sat on the edge of Cain's bed, her hands curled in her lap as she watched him roll up his sleeves. His movements were precise, controlled, yet there was tension in his shoulders.
A soft knock at the door broke the silence.
Cain barely acknowledged it. "Come in."
Selena stepped inside, carrying a small tray of medical supplies. Her eyes flickered to Avery before landing on Cain, her expression unreadable.
"Alpha, the healing kit you requested for," Selena said, standing still with the tray in her hands.
Cain nodded, then reached for the tray, picking up a small cotton pad and soaking it in antiseptic. Avery tensed slightly as he turned back to her.
"Sit still," he ordered.
She obeyed without question, though she couldn't help the way her body stiffened when he touched her. His fingers were firm but careful as he dabbed at the cut on her cheek. The sting was sharp, and she flinched, a small gasp slipping past her lips before she could stop it.
