Reuben's legs finally gave in, and he dropped onto the couch, still staring at Kai like he was trying to make sense of a nightmare that wouldn't end. His hands gripped the edge of the seat, trying to ground himself in something real.
Kai sat across from him, calm, unbothered. His elbows rested lightly on his knees, his fingers laced together.
Reuben's voice cracked through the tension.
"What is going on? How did you even get into my house? My guards… my security—"
Kai cut in, voice low and razor-sharp.
"That's not the issue here."
Reuben froze.
Kai leaned forward slightly, eyes locked with his.
"The issue is you."
The room went cold.
"You've bitten off more than you can chew," Kai said, his tone calm—but there was a finality to it. "And your time is up."
He let the words hang in the air, thick and unmoving.
"I'm here to deal with you," Kai said simply.
