Chapter 10 - chapter 10;A little walk

Far from the hospital, Lance sat precariously on the rooftop's edge of a towering building, his hand resting on a bent knee, the other leg dangling over the void.

Though his expression looked calm, it wasn't the sort of calm that would draw a person in. It was the kind of calm that could have a person cowering in fear because of the fierce look in his eyes. Though he looked calm facially, his eyes told a whole different story about his present mood. Breaking the silence, Devon spoke, "What's the plan?"

Hearing Devon's question, the corner of Lance's lips lifted to form a smirk as he replied in his deep voice, "Why ask? You know the drill." Hearing Lance's words, Devon seemed to have gotten the clarification he needed as he immediately turned around and walked towards a certain spot in the dark corner of the rooftop. A big black box sat there. Opening it, a big, creepy smile stretched across his face as he turned his head towards Lance's direction and gave him a nod.

.....

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Alice was still freaking out. She had spent almost half an hour scouring the entire hospital, but she still hadn't found them. The panic was rising in her chest with every passing minute. She regretted the whole thing, right from accepting this night shift to the moment she allowed Devon to see Lance. If they didn't come back before morning, she would surely lose her job for letting a visitor this late at night and losing the patient as well. The weight of her mistake pressed down on her, and she felt a wave of nausea rise in her throat.

She went back to her previous position next to Alissa, frantically biting at her nails, her mind racing to find a solution. She had no idea where they could have gone, and the thought of Devon's unpredictable nature sent shivers down her spine. Just as she was about to call security, she heard the door to Lance's room open. Looking up, she saw Devon step out, closing the door behind him. He looked as calm as ever, as if he hadn't just disappeared and reappeared all of a sudden. Seeing that A wave of anger, hot and fierce, consumed her. How could he be this calm after what he just did? The thought of him disappearing with Lance, leaving her in a state of frantic worry, was infuriating. She stood up, her body trembling with a mix of anger and fear. She marched towards him, her voice tight with frustration. "Where did you go?" she demanded, her eyes narrowed.

Hearing her question, Devon was shocked. He hadn't expected her to notice their absence. They had been as quick as possible, moving with a sense of urgency, but somehow she had noticed. His calm facade faltered for a moment, and a flicker of surprise crossed his face. He had underestimated her, and now he was caught.

His eyes darted around, searching for an escape, but Alice stood firm, blocking his path. "Answer me," she demanded, her voice rising in volume. "Where did you take him?"

Devon took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure. "It's nothing," he said, his voice deceptively calm. "Just took him for a little walk."

Alice scoffed. "A little walk? In the middle of the night, with a patient who's supposed to be under constant supervision?"

Devon's eyes narrowed. "He needed some fresh air," he said, his voice hardening. "And I know what's best for him."

"You know what's best for him?" Alice retorted, her anger reaching a boiling point. "You're not a doctor! You might be his friend or whatever you are to him but at this moment and in his present condition . I am sorry to say but, you have no right to decide what's best for him!"

Devon's face twisted into a mask of fury. "Like I said we went for a walk " he said, his voice low and menacing. "Don't try to pry into things that are none of your business if not , you'll regret it."
