(Charlotte's POV)
I sat still, my hands trembling slightly as Darius's words echoed in my mind.
He had said it so casually—like it didn't sting, like it didn't hurt him at all.
He told me he was the one who arranged Ayra's engagement party.
My heart refused to believe it at first. Darius?
The man who was loyal to the core and couldn't even stand the thought of the slightest betrayal... was the same man who had arranged an engagement party for his supposed girlfriend?
A celebration that should have shattered him?
He was lying to himself. That had to be the only explanation.
My phone rang, buzzing loudly, jolting me from my thoughts.
When I looked at the screen, my heart skipped a beat.
"Mrs. Anna."
I answered immediately. Her voice came through, warm and filled with concern.
"Charlotte, darling. Are you busy? Can you come over to the house? I need to speak with you."
Something in her tone made me nervous.
"I'll be there right away," I said.
