While Evan remained bound and unconscious inside the factory, outside, someone was already moving with purpose—someone who never played by the rules.
{Rey's POV}
"Hey, where are you going? Isn't the entrance over there?" a familiar voice rang out in my mind as I circled to the back of the old facility.
I sighed. "Can't you keep quiet for one damn minute, Aiden? I'm taking the same route I used back then... when I dragged your whining spirit out of this dump."
Aiden—my uninvited companion. A spirit I picked up by accident, or so I thought. Turns out, he wasn't just any spirit. He claimed to be a god relic, once wielded by a God King—yeah, the God King, one who supposedly ruled above all others.
Still hard to believe something that powerful ended up in a backwater world like ours.
"Ohhh~ now I remember this path," Aiden hummed, floating around me like an annoying halo. "Hurry up, we don't have time. We need to get to Zero before someone else does."
Zero. He always talked about her like she was some kind of treasure. Like the entire world would fall apart if she landed in the wrong hands.
"Can I just ask—who exactly is she that you're so damn obsessed with?" I muttered, glancing around cautiously. "You keep acting like if someone else gets her, all hell breaks loose."
"Don't think of her like some normal relic, kid," Aiden said, his tone turning serious. "She's the pinnacle of creation—greater than me, greater than any relic ever made. The purest form of power itself."
I scoffed. "Right. If she's so powerful, then why did your last host die?"
Aiden paused for a moment before brushing it off. "Tch, I can't remember the details. Anyway, quit with the questions. Just know she's the real deal."
I rolled my eyes and dropped the heavy suitcase I'd been carrying. "Fine, enough chit-chat. Should I wear those things now, or later?"
"Put them on. We're going in," Aiden instructed.
I popped open the case and geared up—armor plates, embedded guard tags, and finally, a long coat for flair. Gotta admit, it looked slick.
"So? How do I look?" I smirked.
"The outfit's sharp," Aiden replied with a chuckle. "Too bad it's being worn by a total donkey."
I clicked my tongue. "One more word and I'll throw you in a blender. Now quiet down. I need to concentrate if I'm gonna sneak in and steal your damn 'ultimate relic'."
"Alright, alright... but what if I told you I had a better idea?" Aiden said, floating beside me like a devilish whisper.
I squinted at the guards patrolling near the main building. "Better idea how?"
He grinned. "Time for a little... cake-cutting."
"What the hell are you—" But before I could finish, my body seized up. I lost control. My vision darkened, and I felt myself sinking into the void.
I tried calling out, but no answer came.
When light finally returned, I wasn't in the factory anymore. I stood in a sterile, white room, boxed in by seamless walls. There were no doors, no windows—nothing.
I ran my hands across the surface and finally felt something—a hidden handle. Smooth and cold, camouflaged perfectly into the wall. If not for touch, I'd have missed it.
I yanked it.
Nothing.
Again. Still nothing.
Over and over, until my arms grew numb.
And just when I was about to give up, it clicked—and the door burst open.
But instead of light, it revealed a swirling black void that yanked me in like a vacuum.
In the blink of an eye, I found myself back in reality.
My breath hitched.
Aiden stood there, stretching like he'd just returned from yoga. "You're back. Good timing."
I gritted my teeth. "What was that?"
"Nothing serious. Just borrowed your body for a bit. Had to sneak us inside."
I looked around. Sure enough, we were in. Just outside a window that had been busted open.
"What happened to the guard that was stationed here?" I asked.
"Relax. I put him in a... permanent nap. Sweet dreams and all."
That answer gave me chills, but I didn't push it. I knew better than to dig too deep with Aiden.
"Let's go before anyone spots us," I said, carefully climbing in through the window, mindful of the broken glass.
{End of POV}
Somewhere not too far from where Rey and Aiden infiltrated, several figures lay motionless on the ground.
To the average eye, they seemed merely unconscious.
But a closer look revealed the truth.
Blood. Red. Fresh. Soaking into the soil.
They weren't asleep. They were dead.
Aiden's doing? Most likely.
But the real question remained—what exactly was Aiden? A divine relic? A ghost? Or something far more ancient?
Only time will tell...
Meanwhile, deep within the bowels of the factory...
In a dark corner, Evan sat bound to a chair.
His fingers twitched.
His eyelids trembled.
Moments later, his eyes slowly opened—his consciousness returning as the drug's effects wore off.
The storm was coming.
To be continued...
