Chapter: Crossroads
The moment Lucius disappeared down the corridor, Kiara felt something twist inside her—something raw, aching.
She wasn't ready for the conversation to end like that.
She pushed off the railing, her pulse still erratic from everything that had just happened. The tension between her and Veryon had been like a storm waiting to break, but it was Lucius's words that rattled in her mind.
"I don't want to lose you."
Before she could think better of it, she moved.
Her bare feet hit the stone floor in hurried, uneven steps, her body still weak from everything she had been through. But she didn't care. She chased after him, rounding corners, slipping past torches that cast long, flickering shadows along the walls.
By the time she reached him, he was already at the far end of the hall, his back to her, his hands clenched at his sides.
"Lucius," she called out.
He stopped.
The silence stretched.
