POV Narrator
The old Anjanath was in a bad mood, tossing and turning in his nest, unable to sleep due to the pain in his face.He licked the wound, trying to soothe the pain with little success, growling in pain and anger.Even with a brain incapable of complex thoughts, he couldn't help but question what that creature was.It looked and moved like the other two-legged beings that wore different skins despite being the same species... he'd even seen some of them with skins similar to his.But "that" was not one of them. In all his life, he had never seen anything like it, and he had seen things that would surprise even the veterans of the First Fleet.
So that being triggered something in his mind he didn't know how to explain—a mix of instincts: one telling him it was a threat he should kill, the other urging him to flee if he saw it again. The Anjanath didn't know how to handle the conflict in his mind, so he decided the best thing was to sleep and forget about it.
But a whisper in the leaves forced him to open his eyes.He was facing away from the sound's origin, so he lifted his head and waited for whatever caused it to appear. He narrowed his eyes, watching—and when he saw what emerged, he couldn't help but widen them in surprise.Chryssia had exactly the same reaction when she realized the Anjanath she had encountered was the same one she had fought hours earlier. But surprise quickly turned to excitement, reflected on her face with a wide smile, baring all her sharp teeth.
—Well... this is an unexpected surprise, but one I gladly accept.
The Anjanath rose slowly, never taking his eyes off Chryssia. At first, his expression was unreadable, but he gradually began to lift his lips, baring his teeth, a growl growing into a roar. His nasal bone lifted along with his dorsal fins, his jaws filled with flames—the monster didn't hesitate to charge at Chryssia.
On her end, Chryssia used [Charged Blood], [Ram], and [Charged Strike], running toward the monster intending to clash head-on.The Anjanath tried to body slam her, but Chryssia sidestepped at the last second, avoiding the hit.In a swift motion, however, the Anjanath landed a tail strike.
Chryssia blocked the attack with both arms, activating [Royal Guard], but the hit still pushed her back several meters. She knew staying defensive was a bad idea, so she charged again, arms raised in a boxing guard stance.Using [Hardened Poison Spikes], she covered her knuckles with spikes and landed a right hook to the monster's stomach.
The Anjanath, remembering what had happened last time he let her hit him repeatedly, spun around, trying to strike Chryssia with his tail again. The hit missed but forced her to retreat, giving him space to launch several fireballs.
Chryssia had to run to dodge the attacks until the Anjanath ran out of flame. She smiled, knowing that, at least for a while, her enemy couldn't use elemental attacks. And now that he couldn't use elements, she would use hers.
Using the newly acquired [Lightning], she fired a pale blue bolt that struck the Anjanath squarely in the head. The beast staggered, spasming slightly while growling in pain.
Seeing the opportunity, Chryssia once again used [Charged Blood], [Ram], and [Charged Strike], jumping to hit the monster's head. She didn't manage to bring him down, but lowered his head enough so she didn't need to jump again to deliver a second, third, and fourth consecutive blow.
With the monster on the ground, she raised her leg to a ninety-degree angle and delivered an axe kick.Despite his tough skull, the Anjanath lost consciousness for several seconds—a window Chryssia used to straddle his neck and start punching him in the face.
The Anjanath came to and began shaking violently to throw her off.Chryssia tightened her grip around his neck while continuing to punch his face. The Anjanath smashed into trees, trying to dislodge her.
Phageris, noticing she was starting to lose her leg grip, went more aggressive. She extended her hand into a spear shape and drove it into his eye, using [Lightning] inside the monster's skull.
The Anjanath roared, but it was unlike any roar before—it was pure pain.He collapsed, finally managing to throw Chryssia off, though at that point it no longer mattered.
Chryssia stood up without hurry; she already knew this fight was over. She stared at the monster lying on the ground, the side of its face with the destroyed eye pressed against the dirt. Ironically, this was the same side she had broken in their last fight.
The Anjanath's gaze was unfocused, staring at nothing, but when he saw her approach, his eye locked onto hers.Phageris and Anjanath stared at each other for several seconds until Chryssia said:
—Hunt complete.
She didn't need the system to tell her the hunt was over—she knew he was dead.
And even though it was completely unnecessary, she still lifted her head and roared at the sky.
Hey! I hope you enjoyed the fight.Honestly, I think someone mentioned this only once, but maybe more people think the same—that the monsters feel too weak. And, compared to the games, I suppose that could be true. But this is for two reasons:
Monster Hunter as a series tries to maintain a certain level of realism, even though it's fantasy. Still, it keeps a kind of logic, and some things are based on real science. But since it's a game, no matter how much realism they try to include, they have to make the monsters tougher than they should be so the game is fun. I'm not saying that's bad—it's absolutely necessary.
In this story, I wanted to take Monster Hunter's world and treat it a bit more realistically. The monsters are less durable than in the games. Also, it wouldn't make sense for Chryssia to fight any other way—her mindset is always to end battles as quickly as possible, so she always goes for vital points or tries to deal as much damage as she can.If I made her hold back or not aim for weak points, I wouldn't be staying true to her character.
Still, let me know what you thought of the fight, and if there's anything you think I could improve😊
