Staring at the item before her, Phoenix fell into contemplation for a moment before spending 1000 crystals to purchase one.
My luck probably isn't that bad, right?
Even if I don't make a profit, I should at least break even, shouldn't I?
Phoenix remained uncertain.
With so many gods available, the chance of summoning a valuable deity seemed uncertain. Moreover, even if she did summon one, whether she could obtain a valuable power after successfully killing it was another matter entirely.
The probability wasn't something she wanted to consider, but when she roughly calculated it, the odds were indeed small.
Then she remembered... the Class Monitor... seemed to be someone with rather poor luck. Phoenix's heart wavered slightly.
Wait! Fu Hua being unlucky has nothing to do with me, Phoenix!
Fu Hua's bad luck doesn't mean mine is bad too! After all, I'm still an [Immortal]!
With this thought, Phoenix's heart immediately settled. Fu Hua wasn't equivalent to Phoenix, so what was there to worry about?
However, despite this reasoning, Phoenix pondered for a moment and bought another card. If one card hadn't summoned a powerful Heretic God, could two cards still fail to produce a valuable one?
As for summoning two Heretic Gods simultaneously—would the pressure be overwhelming?
That was no issue at all.
Phoenix, having mastered multiple divine keys, felt utterly confident.
"Ai-chan, how do I use this thing?" Phoenix asked, holding the card in her hand.
[It's simple. Just snap it.]
"Snap it? Alright then!"
Indeed, it was simple. Phoenix gazed at the two dazzling summon cards in her hand, her heart brimming with anticipation. Which two gods would appear?
The king of the Norse pantheon... Odin?
The king of Olympus... Zeus?
The creator god of ancient India... Brahma?
The chief deity of Egyptian mythology... Ra?
The king of the Roman pantheon... Jupiter?
Phoenix instantly recalled the major divine systems and their respective God Kings and chief deities.
If this were a true God King, Phoenix might not stand a chance. But this was merely a Heretic God born from this world's mythology... Even if it were a creation deity from ancient myths who split the heavens and earth, it would still be just another specimen...
For Phoenix, the summoned gods' power directly correlated to their value. The stronger they were, the greater their worth.
These Heretic Gods were nothing more than prey in her eyes, not objects of fear.
"I just hope it's not one of those trash gods..."
With this thought, Phoenix simultaneously snapped both [ Heretic God Summoning Cards] in her hands.
As the summoning card was snapped in two, the two cards dissolved into specks of light that vanished in Phoenix's hand. Then... the desert sky suddenly underwent a dramatic transformation.
First... the temperature in the desert soared by an unknown degree, and numerous flames appeared out of nowhere. They required no fuel, igniting spontaneously in the air.
Simultaneously... Phoenix felt her mind being subtly affected, though not significantly. She immediately purged this slight influence.
"Is this about a Heretic God of fire?"
Phoenix was slightly taken aback, but... if it concerned a Heretic God of fire, she had even less reason to worry.
When it came to playing with fire, Phoenix believed she could outmatch anyone.
As Phoenix pondered, a peculiar cry suddenly echoed across the sky.
It resembled a bird's song, a demon's roar, yet also carried the timbre of a child's voice. This sound possessed the power to influence minds, though its effect proved minimal—at least for Phoenix.
Moments later, crimson clouds resembling flames engulfed the heavens. A colossal... what appeared to be a massive bird composed entirely of fire emerged from the cloud layer and began its descent.
The flaming avian bore striking resemblance to a phoenix, yet carried distinct differences...
With the arrival of this divine flame bird, the already scorching desert intensified. The additional heat radiating from the celestial creature pushed temperatures above boiling point, with no sign of abating. Ordinary humans entering this area would either perish from dehydration or be instantly incinerated by the heat.
Yet Phoenix found this maddening heat... strangely comforting. For Erica and Liliana trailing behind, however, it posed considerable trouble.
They were forced to employ magic to create thermal barriers against the searing waves.
With Higokumaru standing guard nearby, they could rest assured no mishaps would occur.
Gazing at the flaming divine bird above, Phoenix suddenly felt a twinge of disappointment. Whether it was a phoenix or some other mythical beast, its power seemed rather unimpressive compared to Beelzebub and Michael's formidable might.
This conclusion could be drawn simply by observing the bird's magic power. To ordinary people and mages alike, the flaming divine bird's magic appeared bottomless. Yet in Phoenix's eyes, this creature's power fell short of Michael's by at least several dozen times...
Before Phoenix could identify the flaming divine bird, another anomaly occurred in the sky...
The fiery clouds, once blazing like flames, dissipated significantly. A soft pink glow now illuminated the heavens.
The temperature, which had already reached several hundred degrees, began to drop rapidly. Within minutes, it stabilized at around 200 degrees Celsius.
It seemed the cooling process had reached its limit.
Yet when a cool breeze swept through, the temperature plummeted another few dozen degrees...
However, this breeze...
"This wind carries salt... It's like sea air... Could the other Heretic God be a deity controlling maritime powers?" The second Heretic God had yet to appear, likely because it was far more powerful than the flaming divine bird...
So it hadn't appeared yet, but this early anomaly made Phoenix suspect that this Heretic God was likely a deity associated with the sea.
However... Phoenix suddenly felt a pang of guilt toward it.
This was a desert, and as a sea deity, it would have no advantage here, even being at a disadvantage. Many of its powers related to the ocean would be completely ineffective.
Though not exactly like a fish out of water, it was close...
If powers like tsunamis or storms were used in the desert...
They'd be utterly useless.
