Darren's POV
I stared at the alpha, but I somehow couldn't see him.
My heart felt heavy before, bearing the weight of pain and regret. Now, I didn't feel relief. I just felt a void.
A wide chasm that asked to be filled. I was empty and I couldn't understand why. I wasn't full of love and hope. Wasn't full of sadness. Wasn't full of glee that it was all over. I couldn't understand.
I walked out of the pond, the waterfall washing me clean of blood and dirt. I sat on a rock, arms pressed on my thighs as I stared at the ground. Kristin rushed to my side, kneeling at my feet with a face full of concern.
"Why?"
I wanted to cry. I wanted to laugh. I wanted to feel. But there was nothing.
"Maklev is gone, right?"
"Yes, my lord. What do you want to do now?"
"I… I don't know."
