Maria Carter walked into Mrs. Carter's room quietly, her footsteps so light that there was almost no sound, as if she was afraid of disturbing something.
She slightly poked her head forward, cautiously looking around, and after confirming that no one was there, she quickly closed the door.
There was a hint of cunning pride on her face, her lips slightly curved up, eyes sparkling with excitement, as if she had just accomplished something remarkable.
"Mom, look, brother and sister-in-law went in.
It's been an hour, and there's no movement inside, my plan is more than likely successful."
Maria lowered her voice, a trace of excitement in her tone.
As she spoke, she gestured with her hands, appearing somewhat animated.
Mrs. Carter was sitting on the settee by the window, holding Emily Parker's divorce agreement, her eyes somewhat distracted, seemingly pondering something.
Upon hearing Maria's words, she looked up, her gaze carrying a touch of skepticism, appearing a bit worried.
