Daniel lifted his eyes, trying his best to stay calm under Kevin's sharp gaze. He could feel the pressure tightening around him. He knew Kevin had seen the exchange, and that suspicion was already blooming in his mind. He had to say something, anything to make Kelvin believe him.
Forcing a weak smile, Daniel cleared his throat. "Oh yes, sir. We ran into each other once… at a supermarket," he lied, hoping the simple explanation would be enough to erase Kevin's doubt.
