"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." — Luke 12:48
The next morning started off normal enough.
The sun cast golden light over St. Paul's Basic School and High School, and students filled the courtyard, chatting and laughing before the morning assembly. Ellie sat on one of the benches near the hall, absentmindedly scrolling through her phone. Louis wasn't around—he had left early for some errand, which meant she had the chance to experience school without her brother hovering like a watchdog.
She should've felt relieved. Instead, she felt restless.
Since awakening her Nephilim nature, everything felt… different. The world around her was sharper. Colors seemed richer, movements slower, and sounds clearer. She could hear conversations from across the courtyard if she focused. Smell the chalk dust from classrooms even with the windows shut. Her own body felt stronger, faster—almost too much so.
She wasn't sure how to handle it.
"Yo, Ellie!"
