And yet, everything stands still when I'm with you.
I can't feel my heartbeat anymore.
Not in the romantic sense. Not in the soft fluttery "oh, he said something sweet" way.
I mean— I literally can't feel it.
I think he broke it.
I can't hear the workers outside setting up for the Melee, can't smell the bacon grease still clinging to the air from breakfast. There's only Logan—his arms caging me against the wall, his breath hot on my lips, his thumb tracing the seam of my mouth like he's re-familiarizing himself with the shape of it.
Everything feels like it's tilting sideways and I'm falling right back into the man who broke me.
"Logan… no…" My voice is a threadbare whisper.
Finnian howls inside me, clawing at my ribs. 'Let him in. Please, please let Mate in.'
But I'm no cheat. And this—his body pressed to mine, his scent drowning me—this is already too close to betrayal.
Logan's thumb drags across my bottom lip. I suck in a sharp breath.
