Ace steps inside, expecting the usual evening bustle, detectives wrapping up their shifts, chatter in the air, papers shuffling, the hum of activity still lingering.
Instead, he's met with silence.
He slows his steps. His brows furrow.
The entire place is dim, the usual bright overhead lights turned off, leaving only the faint glow from outside.
Kieran said he would be around, why is the place looking like this?! Everyone can't have gone home.
Something's off.
"Alright…" Ace's voice echoes slightly, his eyes scanning the space. "What the hell is going on?"
"Why the are the lights off?" he mutters, his voice cutting through the silence.
"Sam?"
Before he can take another step, determined to go to Kieran's office, the lights suddenly flicker back on.
And there, right in the center of the space, is Kieran.
On one knee.
Ace freezes.
His breath catches in his throat, and for a moment, it's as if the world itself has stopped.
