Chapter 76:outnumbered
Ryker's POV
We finally made it back to the surface.
Surprisingly, everything was quiet—eerily so. Not a single sign of a creature lurking around. I let out a deep breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. I'd been sure that the creatures responsible for our fall into the cave would still be out there, waiting to ambush us the moment we resurfaced. But the coast was clear. It seemed we'd gotten lucky. No one was waiting for us.
I exhaled again, the tension in my shoulders easing slightly. Still, everyone remained on high alert. They shifted into defensive stances, eyes scanning the terrain for even the slightest movement. Just in case something decided to come crawling out from behind the trees or beneath the rocks.
But there was nothing.
Or so we thought.
That's when I noticed Kira. She had taken a different stance—still, focused. Her eyes sharpened as if she had seen or heard something the rest of us hadn't.
