Lina stared at him, heart slowly turning to stone. He was really standing there, trying to convince her that staying with another woman for personal gain was something she should be patient about.
As if she was just supposed to wait in the shadows until he was done with Stacey which they both knew that wouldn't be the case.
"Your family is already wealthy, Christian," she said, her voice low. "You don't need Stacey's connections. The only reason you two broke up before was because she wanted a different path. But now that she's back, you threw everything we had away. Like I was nothing."
Christian's smile returned, soft and disarming. "I didn't throw it away, Lina. Look, I promise I'll sort this out. Just wait for me. You're the one I want in the end. Okay?"
He said it like it was some kind of favor. Like she was supposed to be grateful he still wanted her after treating her like a secret—like a shadow in his life.
