Adeline's eyes widened in pure horror. Her heart raced like a wild drum in her chest. She couldn't believe what she just heard.
Henry saw her face and chuckled darkly.
"You heard me right," he said, slowly walking back to his bed. "Now, be a good girl and get me that ten thousand dollars you've been saving."
Adeline didn't move. She didn't speak. She just sat there, frozen, like a statue. Her mouth felt dry, and her hands were trembling.
Henry narrowed his eyes.
"I'm not going to ask again," he said, lifting his hand once more, ready to slap her.
But just then—
BANG!
The door burst open with a loud crack.
Uniformed cops stormed into the room, and one of them shouted, "Hands in the air! Now!"
Henry blinked, shocked.
"What the—?!"
Before he could react, two strong officers grabbed him by the arms and twisted them behind his back. He struggled, yelling curses, but they shoved him to the ground and cuffed him.
"Get off me! I didn't do anything!"
