FREY'S POV
I lay back on the bed, staring at the darkened rafters above, the weight of the world pressing down harder than usual today. The tension in the air, the sense that something, someone, was slipping through the cracks, gnawed at my thoughts. My body had grown accustomed to the weight of responsibility, but it didn't make it any easier to bear. The room was quiet, too quiet. The only sound was the faint hum of the wind brushing against the stone walls outside.
"Frery," Kayne's voice rumbled inside my mind, a deep, primal sound that resonated through my bones. It wasn't a voice I could ignore, even if I wanted to.
I sat up, my eyes immediately narrowing as the world around me seemed to grow sharper, more acute. "What is it?"
