Liar. Of course, he was. Jealous to his core. But he wore his indifference-like armor, pretending he didn't feel it clawing through him every time she kept him at arm's length.
"Let's try an arrow," Kai said aloud, his voice sharp, almost too casual. His gaze never left Ren's face. He needed something, anything, to release the pressure building inside him, to blow off his steam. And the beast shackled to the wall was the perfect outlet.
Ren handed him the strongest vial without hesitation. "Let's see who wins, shall we? Your brother… or me."
Kai exhaled sharply, somewhere between a sigh and a growl. She was provoking him, playing this game like a child, but he couldn't help admiring the fire in her. This side of her, bold, brash, competitive, was maddeningly attractive. And yet, the distance between them was eating him alive.
