Elisa's footsteps were soft against the gravel as she walked down the path that led to the pack house, the weight of the day pressing on her. The ride back with Raven had been uncomfortably quiet with Raven shooting uncomfortable glances at her like she wanted to say something but didn't know how to say.
Her phone was finally quiet after buzzing all evening with missed calls and text messages from Nate. Her wrist was still throbbing a little bit but it was nothing compared to the throbbing in her chest.
He looked so hurt.
The image wouldn't leave her: Cael's eyes widening, darkening, as he angrily pulled her from Dante arms. The anger that followed. The way his control had slipped—just for a second, but that second had left her breathless, sprawled on the ground, more from shock than pain.
