Chapter 78 - Chapter 79: Testing the Waters

Chapter 79: Testing the Waters

Chang Wei looked at Seras.

"Seras, have you thought about what you'll do in the future?" he asked.

"…I don't know."

Seras had already realized that returning to her previous life was impossible after being caught up in such a mysterious event.

"In that case, would you like to join us?"

Chang Wei gave her a choice. If she was unwilling, he would send her to an island opposite the Yan Dynasty. After all, the Yan Dynasty would reclaim these islands sooner or later, and by then, she could directly become a citizen of the Yan Dynasty.

There was already a foreigner who had done this—moving to the islands, obtaining residency, and waiting for the Yan Dynasty to reclaim the land to directly gain citizenship.

"Can I?" Seras asked quickly.

"Of course," Chang Wei replied with a smile. "But you're just an ordinary person right now. Joining us would be dangerous, so I plan to turn you into a supernatural being. Are you willing?"

He intended to make Seras his first Blacklight prototype.

"But I don't know how to fight…"

Seras was naturally willing to become a supernatural being, but she didn't know how to fight. Unless you counted the combat training she had learned at the police academy.

"No problem. Celestial Dog will teach you," Chang Wei said with a laugh. He was joking—how could she fail to learn combat with the strongest individual fighter, the werewolf captain, around?

"Then… I'm willing," Seras nodded.

"Close your eyes. It'll be over soon," Chang Wei instructed.

Seras obediently closed her eyes, feeling very nervous. Then she felt Chang Wei's finger touch her forehead.

"It's done."

Hearing his words, Seras opened her eyes in surprise. Was it really that quick?

"How do you feel?" Chang Wei asked with concern. This was his first time transforming someone into a prototype. For others, whether they lived or died was merely an experiment, but Seras was different. Although he had already thoroughly examined her body with telepathy and psychokinesis, confirming that the Blacklight Virus had fused perfectly with her cells, he still wanted to know how she felt.

"I feel… power, surging through me," Seras said, staring at her hands. She felt an unprecedented strength, as if she could punch her past self to death.

"Try this: imagine your hands turning into claws or blades," Chang Wei suggested. He had given her the Alex Mercer version of the Blacklight Virus, slightly modified so that Seras unlocked all of Alex Mercer's forms at level one.

"Huh?" Seras followed his instructions, imagining hard. She soon saw black and red biomass surging over her arms. One hand turned into a large blade, while the other became a metallic claw.

"What is this?" Seras asked, wide-eyed at the changes in her hands.

"This is your ability now. Your hands can transform into weapons, and your strength, speed, and defense far exceed that of ordinary people. You also have a degree of immortality—you won't die even if your head is blown off or your heart is pierced," Chang Wei explained with a smile.

Seras couldn't believe it. Such power existed? She swung her blade experimentally and accidentally touched a table. The table was effortlessly sliced in half.

"Amazing!" Seras exclaimed excitedly. After all, she was someone who had found Alucard's Harkonnen cannons to be cool, so her excitement about powerful weapons was perfectly normal.

"Next, you two will spar. Celestial Dog, don't worry about killing her—she can't die," Chang Wei said.

His words snapped Seras out of her excitement. "Killing me? That's a joke, right, Mr. Chang Wei?" she asked nervously.

"You'll be fighting all kinds of monsters in the future. Those monsters won't just aim to subdue you—they'll aim to kill you. You need to change your mindset from subduing your enemies to killing them," Chang Wei explained, knowing that her police training was all about subduing opponents.

"Wait…" Seras wanted to say more, but the werewolf captain grabbed her by the collar and dragged her into the room.

What followed was the sound of chaotic crashing and pained screams.

If Chang Wei hadn't isolated the sound waves, the hotel staff would have come knocking by now.

The werewolf captain, following Chang Wei's orders, beat Seras nearly to death, aiming to transform her into a hardened warrior like the original story's female commando, who rose after her mercenary captain's death.

Meanwhile, Chang Wei waited for Hellsing's agents to arrive.

After the werewolf captain was defeated, the Millennium forces had been quiet. Perhaps the chubby major had temporarily given up, or maybe he was planning to have the Royal Protestant Knights probe Chang Wei instead.

As for sending Father Anderson after him? That was impossible. In the chubby major's plans, Father Anderson was a key force to push Alucard to the brink, with Walter merely tying up loose ends.

The major had arranged three key forces to pressure Alucard into drinking the fatal blood at the last moment. The werewolf captain was the weakest, a final failsafe, which was why he appeared near the young butler Walter, blocking the Vatican priests from attacking him.

After ensuring that Alucard drank the blood, he went to Seras.

Thus, unless absolutely necessary, Father Anderson wouldn't be deployed anymore. Without the werewolf captain, the major's plans were already in disarray.

On the other hand, if Alucard tested Chang Wei and ended up at a disadvantage, the major would be thrilled. If Chang Wei suffered instead, it wouldn't be a loss either.

Lieutenant Schrödinger was already seated in the VIP section, ready to watch the show and gather intelligence on Chang Wei.

At the Royal Protestant Knights, Integra was studying the recent rise in vampire incidents when Walter approached her.

"Miss, we have news on that exorcist you asked us to investigate. Should we send someone to probe his intentions?"

Walter knew Integra well. He knew that after hearing this, she wouldn't send ordinary people to investigate an exorcist capable of piquing Alucard's interest.

"You've found him?" Integra nodded, intrigued by the news that Chang Wei was staying at London's largest hotel without trying to hide it.

"If he didn't fight Alucard last time, send Alucard to meet him," she said.

At that moment, Alucard emerged from the wall.

"Have you found him?" he asked.

"Yes, Master Alucard," Walter replied calmly.
