I stood in the center of the clearing, my skin still glowing with threads of energy. My hands trembled. Not from fear—though there was plenty of that—but from the raw 'whatever-it-is' now surging through my veins.
"Olivia?"
Lyra's voice sounded distant, even though she was only a few feet away, approaching cautiously with Jay at her side. Her golden eyes were wide, reflecting the unnatural light emanating from my skin.
"Are you... still you?" Lyra asked, her fingers twitching at her sides.
"I think so," I managed, my voice hoarse. "For now."
Across the field, Kael's werewolves were retreating, dragging their wounded. Ephraim and his coven had already disappeared into the tree line, but I could feel their lingering magical signatures, like the scent of smoke after a fire has been extinguished.
"Liv."
Jay's voice broke through my daze as he moved toward me, his dark hair matted with blood from a cut above his eye.
