100th Chapter đź’Ż đź’Ż

"Stop, I surrender!"
Seeing the scarlet energy, Jane Foster hesitated and quickly raised her hands in surrender.
Then she slowly descended to the ground.
"Huh?"
Wanda Maximoff was slightly surprised. She noticed that the other party wasn't hostile, so the powerful scarlet energy in her hands dissipated, and she landed gently beside Jane.
The two stood on the ground, eyes locked on each other.
"Looks like I'm still a little short of being the strongest Avenger."
Jane Foster removed her helmet, revealing a sickly, pale face that lacked color.
"You look familiar..."
Wanda furrowed her brows as she examined Jane. There was something about her that seemed recognizable, as if she had seen her somewhere before.
"See, Wanda, even Thor's girlfriend thinks you're the strongest Avenger."
The remark came from Finn Wilson, who stood nearby, arms crossed with a smirk.
"Jane Foster," Nick Fury muttered, clearly surprised. "Wasn't she battling cancer and being treated in a hospital?"
"Hey, hello. I thought everyone had forgotten about me, but I guess not."
Jane glanced at the group with a small smile before focusing her attention on Nick Fury.
"You're Thor's girlfriend, right?"
Wanda finally placed where she had seen Jane before. There had been newspaper articles about Thor and his scientist girlfriend. People had admired them as a couple.
But for reasons unknown, the two had completely parted ways.
"Well, technically, ex-girlfriend. We haven't seen each other in years."
Jane shrugged.
"Sorry to hear that."
Wanda's gaze fell on Mjolnir, the legendary hammer clutched in Jane's hand. She couldn't help but ask, "How did you manage to lift Mjolnir?"
She remembered that only Thor, Steve Rogers, and Vision had wielded it before.
(Though, well... Vision isn't exactly a person.)
"Let's go back to Asgard first."
Jane seemed in no hurry to explain, suggesting they return to Asgard before discussing further.
Since several of them were already heading there, they didn't object. They boarded the Quinjet and set course for New Asgard.
A Few Minutes Later
The Quinjet flew over the fjords of Norway, passing towering mountains that stretched endlessly. Seagulls skimmed the surface of the water, gliding freely through the crisp air.
Birdsong echoed through the valleys, filling the space between ancient landscapes and modern settlements. New Asgard was no longer the high-tech, divine city it once was. It had adapted to its new home on Earth.
Towns dotted the landscape, smoke rising from chimneys. The sound of children laughing filled the streets.
A broad road ran through the town, allowing for ease of movement across the muddy terrain.
*Rumble!*
The Quinjet hovered over the dock before landing smoothly on an open clearing.
As the hatch opened, Jane stepped out first, followed by the others.
"The scenery here is beautiful, like a vacation resort."
Finn Wilson closed his eyes for a moment, taking in the fresh air.
"A lot of people actually do come here for vacations," Jane remarked with a chuckle.
"Finn, why don't we stay here for a few more days? It's really nice."
Wanda wrapped an arm around Finn's and looked at him expectantly.
"If you want to, I don't mind."
Finn smiled, pulling her closer.
They still had four days to spare. It wouldn't hurt to stay a little longer.
"Why don't you ask me?" a voice chimed in.
Wanda turned, eyes narrowing as she glared at the speaker—an alternate version of herself, the darker, more ruthless Scarlet Witch.
"Why would I?"
Wanda's tone was cold.
"Who was just talking?" Dark Wanda mused, brushing her hair back casually.
"You!"
Wanda clenched her fists, anger bubbling at the sight of her twisted counterpart.
She wasn't sure if she ever wanted to look in a mirror again.
"Welcome back, my friend... wait, why is he here?"
A voice interrupted the tension. The speaker was Valkyrie, her expression friendly—until her eyes landed on Nick Fury. Then, her smile disappeared instantly.
"It seems you're not very popular, Fury."
Finn smirked at him.
"Good leaders are always envied," Nick Fury responded dryly.
"Or maybe it's because every time you show up, something bad happens."
Valkyrie crossed her arms and looked at him suspiciously. "So, what do you want this time?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D detected strange reality fluctuations. Something isn't right," Fury explained, his tone serious. "I need manpower. I need your help."
After a moment of contemplation, Valkyrie nodded. "Reality fluctuations aren't good news. I'll help."
"Alright, so if you needed Valkyrie, why did you bring us here?"
At this, Finn shot Fury a knowing look.
"With you guys here, my argument for getting help is stronger. Makes me seem less like a lone commander."
Fury shrugged as if the answer was obvious.
"So you admit you are a lone commander?"
Finn was unimpressed.
"You were just looking for an excuse to tag along, weren't you?"
Wanda sighed, unimpressed with Fury's antics. "I don't know who left everything behind for a 'well-deserved break' and left us to clean up the mess."
"That was purely a misunderstanding," Fury said awkwardly.
His mind flashed back to his so-called retirement, filled with expired rations and paranoia. He'd rather not relive that.
"Anyway, I'll take you all on a tour of New Asgard."
Valkyrie suddenly brightened up at the idea.
"It's not quite the Asgard of old, but it's still our home."
"I'd love that."
Wanda was already excited. She turned to Finn. "What do you think?"
"I'm down."
With that, the group followed Valkyrie deeper into New Asgard, unaware that their problems were far from over.
She was curious about what New Asgard would look like.
"Just follow along and have a look."
"He thinks it's fine."
At this moment, Dark Wanda blinked her piercing eyes and answered the question for her.
"It's not about you."
Wanda hugged her tighter and snorted coldly.
Finn sighed, rubbing his temples before turning to Valkyrie. "Then take us there. We're in trouble."
The two witches had been at each other's throats for more days than he cared to count. It was best to change the subject while he still had the chance.
"Finn, you're too kind," Valkyrie said with a smirk before motioning for them to follow.
Several people trailed behind her as they walked toward the town.
Along the way, the air suddenly grew colder, the temperature dropping noticeably. Fortunately, none of them were ordinary people, and they could all withstand the chill.
"Asgard lost its former glory after its fall," Valkyrie said, her gaze lingering on a cracked mountain in the distance. A sigh escaped her lips.
"But isn't it safe now?" Finn asked calmly.
"Finn, that's true, but isn't the past glory worth having?"
Valkyrie's gaze fell, regret flashing in her eyes.
Finn remained silent. His lips parted as if to say something, but no words came.
After all, Asgard wasn't just a kingdom. It was mythology, history, and legacy wrapped in divine grandeur. But after everything—the destruction, the war, the rebirth—New Asgard carried not just sorrow but a lingering sense of loss.
"It looks good now," Dark Wanda observed, watching the townsfolk busying themselves. Her expression softened. This kind of life wasn't all that bad.
"Not very optimistic," Rickel muttered before quickening his pace.
Before long, they reached the town.
From the bay, the view had already given them an idea of what to expect, but up close, the differences stood out. The town was simple, built with necessity rather than grandeur in mind. Wooden structures dominated the area—practical, sturdy, but lacking the splendor of old Asgard.
Finn took it all in, unable to suppress a sigh. He had hoped that something of the old Asgard had survived—its technology, its advanced metals, something. But then he remembered the Fire Giant's onslaught, the unrelenting force of Surtur's destruction. It had left nothing behind.
"We're here," Valkyrie announced, pointing ahead, her eyes glimmering.
This was their new home. The heart of what remained of Asgardian culture.
In front of them, the town stretched out. Smoke curled from chimneys, the laughter of children echoed in the streets, and there was an undeniable warmth in the air despite the cold.
Under the shade of large trees, people lounged, basking in the glow of the afternoon sun. The breeze carried the scent of salt and fresh grass. There was no fear here, no looming war—only peace.
"The scenery here is nice," Wanda admitted with a small smile. It was rare to see her genuinely at ease, but here, amidst this town, she seemed lighter, as if the weight she always carried had lessened just a bit.
"Compared to the old Asgard, it's nothing," Valkyrie muttered, taking a few steps ahead. Her expression was complicated.
Before, Asgard had been dazzling—golden towers, celestial beauty, a realm of gods. Now, it was reduced to this—a quiet settlement by the sea.
"But at least it's far from war, right?" Finn countered.
Valkyrie let out a slow breath. "Yeah. That much is true." Her gaze softened as she looked at the town, "As long as Asgardians live, there will always be an Asgard."
After spending time in the town, they found themselves back at the bay.
The ground beneath them still held the day's lingering warmth, contrasting against the coolness of the sea breeze. The moonlight shimmered on the water, illuminating the seabed with an ethereal glow.
Finn inhaled deeply, taking in the view.
It would be nice to stay here—to enjoy the peace, to let the sea breeze wash away everything else. Compared to the golden halls of old Asgard, this small town felt more grounded, more… real. He found himself preferring it.
Later that evening, after dinner, they walked along the shore. The night air was cool, the sand soft beneath their feet. The gentle waves lapped at the shore, and with every step, the water crept up, coating their feet in refreshing coldness.
Just the sea breeze alone was enough to let one's thoughts wander.
The moonlight bathed everything in a silver glow, casting shadows across Finn's face. He looked content, lost in the moment.
"Finn, don't you think this town is perfect for two people who love each other?" Dark Wanda asked suddenly, her gaze fixed on him.
"The scenery is good," Finn admitted with a nod.
New Asgard had its own beauty, its own charm. The peaceful atmosphere, the sound of waves, the distant laughter—it all carried a serenity that was difficult to find elsewhere.
There were no wars here, no conflicts, no endless struggles. Just simplicity. Just life.
"Why are you asking that?" Wanda suddenly cut in, clinging to Finn. "He's not going to live with you, so don't even think about it!"
Dark Wanda arched a brow, lips curling into a smirk. "What are you getting so worked up about? I was just asking."
"Well, you can't!" Wanda shot back, eyes burning like a tigress ready to pounce.
Finn groaned, running a hand through his hair. "You two are going to be the death of me."
Nearby, Jane Foster watched them with a wistful expression. It reminded her of when she and Thor were like that—when love had been simpler, before life had pulled them apart. Even now, the memories still lingered in her heart.
"If you ever want to come back here, you're always welcome," Valkyrie offered with a knowing smile. "It may not be as grand as before, but it's still a good place to call home."
"I'll think about it," Finn said, his gaze shifting to the moonlit bay. He couldn't deny the appeal of this place.
"We should go," a voice interrupted.
Nick Fury. He had been silent for most of the visit, but now his patience had run out.
Finn groaned. "I want to stay here a little longer."
He wasn't S.H.I.E.L.D. He didn't owe them anything.
"You still need to register," Fury said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Who cares?" Finn grumbled. "There's still so much to see. I'm not ready to leave yet."
With that, he grabbed Wanda's hand and took off toward the beach, laughing as the waves splashed around them.
Dark Wanda followed, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Their laughter echoed in the night air, the joy unmistakable.
Fury remained where he was, watching them disappear into the distance. His expression was unreadable, but there was an undeniable stiffness to his posture.
He sighed heavily.
"Five years. I've been gone for only five years, and I've already lost control of everything."
Where was the trust?
Where was the respect?
He shook his head.
He had a feeling Finn was going to be a major headache.
