There was an explosion, and I had a bad feeling.
The sheer force of the blast snapped Finn out of his thoughts. He stood up abruptly, pushing Blackened Wanda aside as he turned toward the direction of the town.
The brilliant fire that shot into the sky reflected on his face.
The explosions didn't cease, and the ground trembled. The mountains in the distance quaked violently, as if they could collapse at any moment.
"What the hell is happening over there?" Wanda asked, standing beside him, her face filled with worry and tension.
"I don't know," Blackened Wanda said solemnly, her gaze fixed on the destruction ahead. "But we need to find out."
"I can't wait any longer. I'm going there now."
Without hesitation, Finn transformed into a swirling mass of black energy and shot toward the town.
"We follow too."
The two Wandas exchanged glances and nodded before vanishing into black mist, trailing behind him.
Asgard - Above the Battlefield
Thick smoke choked the air. Even from above, it was hard to make out what was happening below.
Explosions continued to rage. Fire spread wildly, consuming everything in its path. The entire realm of Asgard was being torn apart, the destruction truly terrifying.
"Finn, I feel a strong presence," Blackened Wanda murmured, surveying Asgard's devastation.
It was a suffocating aura, an oppressive force akin to death itself.
"I feel it too. This isn't good," Wanda agreed, her voice tense.
Finn's expression darkened. He already had a sinking suspicion about the one responsible.
"If I'm not mistaken… this energy belongs to Gorr the God Butcher."
A cold dread settled over them. The name alone was enough to send chills down any god's spine.
Gorr had terrorized the gods of the Nine Realms. Even the Celestials acknowledged his threat. After obtaining the Necrosword, he became aware of the endless deities scattered across the cosmos. From that moment on, he began his crusade, slaughtering gods wherever he found them.
He hated them—the so-called gods. He despised their hypocrisy. While they sat atop their thrones, his people had perished. His daughter had died in his arms, praying to gods who never answered.
Fueled by vengeance, wielding the blade that thrived on divine blood, Gorr cut his way across the universe. He had lost count of the gods he had slain. But in the end, his ultimate goal was not the massacre—it was Eternity.
A being that could grant a single wish.
"Eternity—the one Gorr truly seeks," Finn muttered as he gazed at the inferno below.
Eternity was not a mere being. He was existence itself, the sentience of the universe personified. He was omnipresent, omnipotent. Even Odin and the so-called All-Fathers were insignificant specks in his vast perception.
Only the true cosmic entities—the Celestials, the Living Tribunal—could claim divinity. Compared to them, Asgard's rulers were nothing more than dust.
Finn clenched his fists. "I want to see him with my own eyes."
Even though he had seen depictions of Eternity before, witnessing him firsthand was something else entirely.
But what Gorr would face now wouldn't be Eternity's true form. Only an aspect of him. The real Eternity existed beyond the reach of mortals, beyond even the gods themselves.
Suddenly—
BOOM!
The town was in chaos. Flames erupted, the ground shattered, and an intense battle raged in the city square.
Asgardian warriors clashed against monstrous creatures. These beasts were grotesque, formed of writhing black mass, their bodies shifting like living shadows. Their presence alone exuded an unnatural malice.
Screams of agony and rage filled the battlefield. The clang of metal rang through the air. Blood splattered across the cobblestones, mingling with the fire and smoke.
The monsters—hulking, amorphous abominations—lashed out with massive, tentacle-like appendages. Their twisted forms dripped with a sickly green fluid, the stench of rot and decay surrounding them.
Asgard's warriors fought with desperate fury. Blades struck true, cutting through the creatures, but it wasn't enough. More shadows surged forward, overwhelming them.
"Kill them!"
"Don't let them through!"
The warriors screamed battle cries, swinging their swords with everything they had.
The monsters pressed on.
The battlefield shook.
Suddenly—
CRACK!
A hammer fell from the sky, wreathed in thunder.
Lightning arced violently as the hammer struck the earth, sending a devastating shockwave outward. Dozens of shadow creatures were obliterated instantly.
A moment later, a second figure descended—a warrior clad in shining silver armor, moving with lethal grace.
Valkyrie.
She swung her blade, cutting through the shadows with precision. The creatures shrieked as they were torn apart, black ichor spilling across the battlefield.
Jane Foster, wielding Mjolnir, stood at her back, scanning the chaos ahead.
"What the hell are these things?" Jane asked, catching her breath.
"Shadow creatures. Nasty things from the Dark Realm," Valkyrie responded, stabbing another beast through the chest. She twisted the blade and kicked the corpse aside.
More monsters poured in from every direction. The battlefield was drowning in them.
"They're endless!" Jane gritted her teeth, swinging Mjolnir once more. A storm of lightning crackled, reducing the incoming creatures to cinders.
But still, they kept coming.
"Something is calling them here," Wanda said, suddenly appearing beside them. She raised her hands, unleashing a blast of crimson energy that tore through the monsters.
Jane exhaled sharply. "You're late."
"You're injured," Wanda noted, glancing at the cuts across Jane's arms. "You can't keep this up."
"No choice," Jane muttered. "We need to stop them."
Wanda's eyes narrowed. "These creatures don't just appear on their own. Someone summoned them."
Jane's grip on Mjolnir tightened. "You think it's Gorr?"
Wanda's expression darkened. "If it's him, we're in more trouble than we thought."
Meanwhile, Finn had landed on the outskirts of the battlefield, scanning the carnage.
And then he saw him.
A lone figure stood in the distance, draped in tattered gray robes, watching the battle unfold with eerie calm.
Gorr.
Finn's eyes locked onto him. A slow smirk formed on his lips.
"Found you."
Gorr's gaze shifted, and for the first time, his expression faltered.
A flicker of uncertainty passed through his eyes.
The moment their gazes met, a wave of unease washed over him. Finn's presence was unlike any god he had faced before.
There was something different about him.
For the first time in a long while, Gorr felt it—
Dread.
