Chapter 154 - Chapter 154 Substitute Teaching (2)

Snape's expression was like some sort of threatening signal.

# Snape "You are easily satisfied. Lupin has hardly set any high standards for you—I think first-years should be able to handle Red Caps and Boggarts. Today we'll discuss—"

He quickly flipped through the textbook, all the way to the last chapter.

# Snape "—werewolves."

# Hermione "But, Professor,"

Hermione said, unable to control herself,

# Hermione "We aren't supposed to learn about werewolves yet; we should be starting with Grindylows—"

# Snape "Miss Granger,"

Snape said, his tone was deathly calm,

# Snape "I believe I am the one teaching, not you. Turn to page three hundred and ninety-four."

He glanced around again,

# Snape "All of you! Now!"

Many in the class exchanged pained looks, some whispering secretly, as everyone opened their books.

# Snape "Can anyone tell me how to distinguish a werewolf from a real wolf?"

Snape asked.

Everyone sat there silently, not moving. Except Hermione, whose hand was raised straight as usual.

# Snape "Who can answer?"

Snape said, ignoring Hermione. His gaze wandered between Harry and Orli; Orli reluctantly raised her hand.

# Snape "Potter, let's hear it."

Snape deliberately chose Harry instead of Orli.

# Harry "We haven't learned the werewolf chapter yet; we're still on—"

Harry struggled.

# Snape "Well, well, well, I never thought I'd encounter third-year students who can't identify a werewolf."

Snape said disdainfully.

# Hermione "Sir,"

Hermione said, her hand still raised,

# Hermione "There are several differences between werewolves and real wolves. The muzzle of a werewolf—"

# Snape "That's your second time speaking out of turn, Granger,"

Snape said coldly,

# Snape "Another five points from Gryffindor."

Hermione's face turned red, and she lowered her hand. Ron loudly said:

# Ron "You asked us a question, and she knows the answer! If you don't want an answer, then why ask?"

Orli was nearly at her wit's end; if you have three friends but only two hands, how do you keep them from doing something reckless?!

# Snape "Stay after class, Weasley."

Snape said in a long, mocking tone:

# Snape "If I hear you criticize my teaching methods again, you'll regret it."

No one made a sound for the rest of the class. Everyone sat and took notes on werewolves from the textbook, while Snape walked between the desks, checking the work completed during Professor Lupin's classes and continuously criticizing Lupin's teaching.

Finally, the bell rang, but Snape didn't let them leave.

# Snape "Each of you will write a paper for me on how to identify and kill werewolves. This topic should cover two sheets of parchment and be submitted Monday morning. Someone needs to manage this class. Weasley, stay behind; we need to decide how to deal with you."

Harry and Hermione left the classroom with the other students. As Orli left, she glanced back at poor Ron, who was left behind, and Snape didn't seem to want much to do with her, so she hurried to catch up with Harry and the others.

# Harry "Snape has never treated any of our other Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers like this, even if he does want to teach us,"

Harry was saying to Hermione,

# Harry "Why is he treating Lupin this way?"

# Hermione "I don't know,"

Hermione said gloomily,

# Hermione "But I really hope Professor Lupin gets better soon."

## Orli "I believe Professor Lupin will recover in three to five days."

Orli comforted them, knowing the full moon wouldn't last long.

Five minutes later, Ron caught up with them, seething with anger.

# Ron "You know what that—"

He seemed to want to swear but, glancing at Orli, held back:

# Ron "—made me do? Clean the chamber pots in the hospital wing. Without magic!"

He was fuming, fists clenched tightly.

Orli felt awkward again. She stood among her friends, not knowing what to say.
