Chapter 6 - Hakari vs Yachiho, Gambling vs Time

[General POV]

Back on the designated field, dust blowing in a gentle breeze, Hakari and Yachiho stood across from one another. Unlike the spar with Tenka, they didn't have any witnesses to their match up.

"So, should I be worried?" Hakari asked, lifting an eyebrow as Yachiho was readying a firearm, pulling the slide back easily.

"I'm not stupid enough to use live ammo." She refuted, hefting the pistol up in a readied position. "These are just rubber bullets."

"How are you gonna beat me?" Hakari asked, running his fingers between themselves and stretching the ligaments there. "Not like I'm gonna cry uncle if I get hurt."

Yachiho's eyes glared at Hakari. "Let's treat them as live rounds for the purposes of this spar, Hakari." She offered, checking the slide again. "If I hit you in the head or chest, we call this my win."

Hakari only shook his head, a grin cracking his lips. "Hey, whatever you want."

The two combatants entered their readied positions, Hakari in a loose stance, arms up to block. Yachiho, oppositely, leveled her gun, pointing it at the gambler.

They stayed like this a moment, neither deigning to make the first move, simply observing one another. Until Hakari acted.

Bending his knees, he lunged forward, hand coming back to deliver a haymaker. As he made to clear the distance, Yachiho showed her training, firing a few rounds towards him. Hakari's other arm bent, taking the blunt of those tight shots, his reinforcement allowing him to power through what pain there was as he got close enough to let his punch fly.

It missed, Yachiho weaving out of the way as it sailed past her face. She leveled the gun up with her backwards weave, aiming to shoot him in the chest point blank. The bullet fired, and Hakari's hand was already in its path, catching it in the briefest of their exchanges so far as Yachiho rolled backwards to make distance again between the two of them.

Hakari slipped to the side, and whipped the rubber bullet back at her. He watched as she rolled to the side, and brought the gun back up to blind fire at him. His hands moved in blurs, guarding his chest and head from a few errant shots that would have hit otherwise.

'Something isn't right.' Hakari thought, watching as Yachiho stood back up and reloaded the gun, panting visibly. 'She's that winded from rolling? She isn't that out of shape.' The volley of fire continued, but Hakari swung his hands together, two train doors closing in front of him as a shield for him to think this puzzle through.

'She must have used her blessing already.' He figured, gazing through the glass as she stopped shooting once she realized she wasn't gonna break through. Instead of moving to flank his cover, however, she stayed still. 'She knows she can wait me out…she has the range on me, and the volume of projectiles.'

Frowning at her through the glass, he reached for the outer edge of one of the doors, pulling it away from the other just enough to break the seal. A palm slapped the glass, and the door flew forward, a flat plane on a collision course with the uppity vice chief.

Hakari saw her begin moving, focused on her positioning before he threw the second door, faster than the first, in a manner like a knife, ends tumbling over themselves. A move one wouldn't expect or be able to react to in time.

Yet, she did. She stood at attention suddenly, the second door passing by her back, then shortly after the first door flew past her front, Yachiho having seemingly found the space where one could fit between the two projectiles. Hakari's eyes narrowed at the move, his mind jumping to a simple conclusion.

'Her blessing is like Bernard's technique, she can account for the future.' Cursed energy flooded Hakari's legs, and he kicked off the ground, clearing the distance to Yachiho and began throwing punches. 'It might be similar, but I doubt it's a one to one. She didn't need to land a blow to begin being able to see it, so its trigger is probably nonexistent, she can just decide to use it.'

Yachiho was taking his barrage of blows well, her hand to hand at an acceptable level for a grade 2 in Hakari's mind. She couldn't deliver counterattacks, however, so she was stressed to dodge when she could, block when she had too, and because of that Hakari could see her wincing as his cursed energy cut at her skin with every hit.

Deciding to end this fight here, Hakari grappled for Yachiho's gun, snatching it from her grip with a gasp from her, and throwing it out of the way. They both saw it sail away through the air, but Yachiho took a single step back and to Hakari's complete shock, did the stupidest fucking pose he had ever seen.

One arm went up into the air, straight up, and the other out to the side, a smug grin on her face.

"[Golden Hour! -]" She spoke, but her words paused mid-sentence, the tone off as she, without any visual sign, vanished and reappeared in the way of her gun, catching it.

'You gotta be shitting me.' Hakari thought. 'Seeing the future and teleportation? Compared to her Bernard's a fucking bum.'

Hakari straightened up as Yachiho and him caught each other's eyes. The fight had already started, but Hakari had proven that he could keep up with Yachiho's bullshit so far, all without resorting to his domain expansion.

However, Hakari understood that the rate this was going was his loss. The teleporting and future sight together meant he could catch a bullet anywhere at any time. The only reason he hadn't so far, was because he had been on the offensive, pressuring Yachiho to play it safe. The moment she went for a play like that, Hakari was done for in this spar.

"Ah, you're doing pretty well." Hakari said, evening his footing out as Yachiho reloaded her gun again. "You sure can keep up. Crazy how you know where some of my attacks are gonna be though."

Before she could get a chance to speak, he continued, knees bending slightly. "I think I'm gonna have to start trying now."

Yachiho's eyes widened some, and she jumped to the obvious conclusion. "You're gonna use that pachinko power again right? The one you used against the chief?"

"Nah," He responded, clenching his right fist by his hip as he bent down, left hand covering it slightly. "You aren't worth the effort." His cursed energy roiled in his body, the basis of the technique taking form as a bright circle spread out from his feet, catching Yachiho in its field.

"[New Shadow Style: Simple Domain]" Hakari spoke simply, feeling the technique click into place. Getting out of the stance, he saw the bewildered look on Yachiho's face, and smirked at her apparent confusion.

"Don't tell me you thought I couldn't dial it back?" Hakari said. "Not every room needs to be furnished."

Yachiho leveled the gun, aiming for center mass. "My [Golden Hour] can still be used here; I just can't leave. This doesn't do anything but CORNER YOURSELF!" She finished, shouting as she started firing.

Hakari shifted his body, dodging the bullets as he channeled his cursed energy into his palms. "I needed an interior space for this to work, this technique isn't worth doing more than a handful of times."

Hakari curled his fingers into claws and manifested his technique. "[Lapse Technique: Multiball]" His hands, suddenly, were filled with heaping piles of pachinko balls, before he threw them with force to the sides of the simple domain. They hit the barrier, and ricocheted back inside, heading in all manner of zigzagging paths towards Yachiho.

Yachiho analyzed the situation, grimacing at the sheer volume of attacks Hakari had let loose. However, she saw a way to end this spar and set him back on the straight and narrow. Hakaris arms were held out wide from sending the dozens of pachinko balls into play, but the area behind him was completely safe at the moment.

"[Golden Hour!] Pause time for five seconds!" She commanded, and her blessing relented, despite her falling reserves. The world shifted to an inverse of color, and she began moving, pushing herself to slip through the gaps of this attack and get into position. She had stuck to using her ability to rewind time for the majority of the spar, Hakari simply too much of a powerhouse against her, in comparison, lackluster defenses.

She slid behind Hakari as the last second ticked down, and she leveled the gun up. As her blessing ended, she fired the bullet on a trajectory with Hakari's back.

She couldn't process the speed of the train doors closing, actively cutting the rubber bullet in half. Hakari shouldn't have been that fast, unless…

Unless he had planned for this. Yachiho made to make distance, but Hakari had pushed through the doors, pivoting them open and turning. HIs hand lifted, showing a single Pachinko ball pinched between his thumb and middle finger. Like looking down the barrel of a gun, Hakari leveled the hand with her head and flicked his finger, sending the pachinko ball to slam hard into her forehead.

Hakari watched as Yachiho fell backward, the blow knocking her unconscious. He looked at how she sprawled onto the ground for a moment, before he sighed, letting the simple domain collapse as he went to drag her uppity ass inside.

As he shifted her onto his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, he noticed Tenka standing by the wayside, smiling at the two of them. He hadn't noticed when she had come by, and due to her blessing, she could have just now appeared.

"Looks like you two settled your differences." Tenka said, lifting a hand to her lips to try and hide her smile. Hakari only shrugged.

"As long as she gets off my ass about the chores, I'll consider it a win." He responded easily, moving to get inside. He could hear Tenka following behind him.

"You know, this is gonna bring more attention to you, you know that right?" Tenka asked as he shucked her onto the couch, paused, and then positioned her to be a little more comfortable. She'd do nothing but complain if he caused her to get a backache.

"What do you mean?" He asked, turning to look back at the chief.

"Yachiho is from a very prominent family called the Azuma's." Tenka explained. "They are quite prolific within the Anti-Demon Corps, and in the regular world, in terms of peach related crimes. They are also, as I have seen, very power hungry."

"Any man that has some strength to bring to the Azuma clan, is sought out. And you, Hakari," She pointed a finger at his chest. "Are the strongest male known, as of right now. The first man to have a peach? Their matriarch, Tobera, won't stop until you're part of the family, especially now that you've proven yourself capable against her and me."

Hakari blinked, feeling that static fill his head again from this information dump. "Sounds like a bad period drama." He commented, and then went to lay on the opposite couch. Tenka raised an eyebrow.

"You aren't gonna take this seriously?" She asked. "I'll do what I can, but if the Azuma clan wants you, they will probably get you, one way or another."

"Let them want me then." Hakari stretched out, tucking his hands behind his head. "I can handle myself."

Tenka watched as he got ready to have a nap, and simply turned away. Seeing that spar with Yachiho, she was confident that Hakari would handle most if not all problems that came to physical blows. She just hoped he would be able to handle the blows that weren't all physical as well.
