Kael did not like this man. This "prophet" person was just a figurehead. A lie. If only the villagers had been able to see that.
His chest burned, as if it were on fire. The gem continued to pulse, the voice urging Kael to kill the man standing in front of him.
But Kael was done killing. It still made his stomach churn just thinking about it.
"As I said, I am the Prophet," the robed man said. He leaned on his cane, favoring his other leg. If it was a fight he was looking for, Kael would be able to overtake him with ease.
The Prophet continued. "I have a question for you. Why? Why did you do this?"
Kael wanted to laugh. He hadn't had a choice in the matter. The villagers had followed the Prophet's orders and attacked.
It was an act of self defense.
Or was that a lie?
Some part of him, as well as the gem, wanted to kill those people.
But that part of him had retreated for now.
"They made their choice," was all he had to say.
