Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 :Into The Unknown

Faith's POV

My leg ached and my lungs burned as I pounded the dirt path. The rhythmic thud of my feet was the only sound in the darkness. I whispered urgently to Sindy, my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement.

"I can barely believe how our night has unraveled," I whispered urgently, my eyes scanning the darkness as I grasped Sindy's trembling hand.

The trees loomed above us, their branches creaking ominously in the wind. I felt like we were being herded toward some unknown fate, the forest itself seeming to conspire against us. Sindy's hand trembled in mine, her fear infectious.

"Come on, Sindy, we have to keep moving," I coaxed, my voice barely audible over the sound of our ragged breathing.

As we ran, the trees seemed to grow closer together, the shadows deepening into dark, ominous pools.

I stumbled, my foot catching on a hidden root, and Sindy's grip on my hand tightened. For a moment, I felt like I was falling, the forest floor rushing up to meet me.

The rustling of leaves and snapping of twigs beneath our feet seemed amplified, echoing through the forest like a death knell.

Sindy's eyes darted wildly around us, her pupils dilated with fear. "He's going to find us," she whispered, her voice trembling. "He's going to kill us."

I squeezed her hand reassuringly, though my own heart was racing with terror.

The smell of damp earth and decaying leaves filled my nostrils, a primordial scent that seemed to speak to something deep within me. The air was heavy with moisture, and I could feel the cool mist settling on my skin.

The forest air clung to my skin like a damp shroud , heavy with the scent of decay and rot.

We were being hunted, and the forest seemed to be closing in around us.

"We can't stop now," I urged, my eyes locked on the path ahead.

The moon cast eerie shadows on the trees, making it seem as though we were being pursued by dark, malevolent spirits. "We have to keep running."

Sindy nodded, her face set in a determined mask. Together, we plunged deeper into the forest, the darkness swallowing us whole.

I could feel the weight of Mathew's gaze upon me, his eyes burning with a feral intensity that made my skin crawl.

Sindy's hand clenched around mine, her fingers icy with fear. Her eyes darted toward me, filled with a desperate plea for reassurance.

My feet pounded the forest floor in a frantic rhythm.

"Faster, Faith," she whispered urgently, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

"We have to lose him."

My feet pounded the forest floor in a frantic rhythm. Leaves rustled , twigs snapped and the sound echoed through the trees like a death knell.

"He's gaining on us," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Terror seized my heart, and I gritted my teeth. I was running for my life , a stark reality that hit me like a slap in the face.

Mathew wouldn't hesitate to kill me, not when I was helping his girlfriend escape.

As we ran, the trees seemed to grow closer together, the shadows deepening into dark, ominous pools.

I stumbled, my foot catching on a hidden root, and Sindy's grip on my hand tightened. "Don't look back," she whispered, her eyes fixed on the path ahead.

But I couldn't help myself. I glanced over my shoulder, and my heart sank.

Mathew was closing in, his eyes fixed on us with an unnerving intensity. His face was twisted into a snarl, his teeth bared in a feral growl.

Sindy's hand jerked me forward, and I stumbled after her, my legs aching with fatigue. But I wouldn't give up. I wouldn't let Mathew catch us.

Not yet.

Just then, Jared materialized before us, his smirk twisting his lips into a cruel smile.

Mathew's squad flanked him, their eyes glinting with amusement, as if they'd been watching a game rather than a desperate bid for escape.

Mathew sauntered up to us, a slow, menacing clap echoing through the forest as a cruel smile spread across his face.

Mathew's hand closed around Sindy's hair, his fingers twisting into a vicious grip. Sindy's eyes widened in pain as he yanked her head back, her neck arching at an unnatural angle.

She winced, her eyes flashing with pain, as he yanked her toward him. His hand drew back, palm cracking through the air with deadly precision.

Sindy's eyes widened in terror as his hand hurtled toward her face

Time seemed to slow as Mathew's hand cracked against Sindy's cheek, sending her head snapping to the side. Tears sprang to her eyes, welling up in a mixture of pain and terror.

A scream welled up inside of me , bur fear constricted my throat , silencing me . I felt like I was drowning in my own terror , unable to escape the crashing weight of Mathews gaze.

Mathew's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze burning with a feral intensity. I felt a chill run down my spine as he sneered, his voice low and menacing. "You're next, Faith."

The forest seemed to hold its breath, the silence a heavy, oppressive blanket that suffocated me.
