By the time the black Bentley glided through the gates of the estate and into the familiar courtyard, the moon had already climbed high into the velvet sky. Stars twinkled above like scattered diamonds, and a faint chill hung in the night air. Despite the late hour, the villa was still softly lit, casting a warm glow through its tall windows.
Silver stretched a little in her seat, her body aching with exhaustion, but her heart full. It had been a long day—emotionally and physically draining—but Louis had been a trooper through it all. She glanced to her side and blinked in surprise.
The little boy, instead of sleeping, was very much awake.
Louis sat perched on Lorenzo's lap, giggling as he played with the soft buttons on Lorenzo's coat. His eyes sparkled, cheeks flushed from excitement, his tiny legs swinging in delight. It was as if the hospital visit had recharged him instead of drained him. He looked healthier already, as though love alone had begun to mend him.
