Chapter 22: Integrating the Future into the Present

Barrett walked through the vast expanse of the Wayne Manor study, the dim glow of the setting sun casting long shadows across the polished wood floors. On his desk lay a compact, sleek-looking device—a manifestation of Ultron's artificial intelligence, designed to seamlessly integrate into the world around him.

For the past week, Barrett had been working tirelessly to bridge the gap between Ultron's advanced capabilities and the limitations of the current technological era. With the help of his enhanced intellect and Ultron's vast database, he had finally managed to create a device that could bypass the inherent conflicts between technology and magic.

"Ultron," Barrett called, his voice steady.

The device flickered to life, and a soft blue light filled the room as Ultron's voice echoed, smooth and confident. "Yes, Master Barrett?"

Barrett winced. "Just Barrett," he corrected. "We're partners, not a master-servant dynamic."

Ultron processed the response for a moment before replying. "Understood. How may I assist you today?"

The first task on Barrett's list was to enhance the security of Wayne Manor. While the mansion already had state-of-the-art systems in place (thanks to his father's investments), they were no match for what Ultron could offer.

"Let's start with the perimeter," Barrett said, gesturing towards the schematics of the estate displayed on a holographic interface.

Ultron analyzed the blueprint instantly. "The existing systems rely on mid-tier electromagnetic sensors and basic surveillance cameras. I recommend implementing energy shields, infrared drones, and a centralized AI monitoring system."

Barrett nodded. "Do it, but keep it subtle. I don't want anyone questioning why a teenager is suddenly installing technology decades ahead of its time."

Ultron's drones, camouflaged to look like regular birds, began deploying around the estate. They would provide 24/7 surveillance, analyze potential threats, and ensure that no intruders could approach unnoticed. Barrett watched from a window as the drones seamlessly blended into the environment.

With the manor secured, Barrett turned his attention to Gotham City. The city was a cesspool of crime and corruption, and while he wasn't ready to become a vigilante just yet, he knew he could still make a difference behind the scenes.

"Ultron, I want you to start mapping Gotham's power structures—criminal organizations, political corruption, everything. Keep it discreet. I don't want anyone knowing we're watching."

Ultron's response was immediate. "Understood. I will deploy stealth probes to gather information and create a comprehensive database of Gotham's networks."

Barrett leaned back in his chair, a satisfied smile on his face. With Ultron's help, he could begin dismantling Gotham's criminal empires piece by piece, even if it took years.

Barrett decided it was time to test Ultron's capabilities in a controlled environment. He took a private car to the outskirts of the city, where an abandoned warehouse stood—a relic of Gotham's industrial past.

Inside, he activated a training program designed by Ultron. Holographic enemies materialized around him, each representing a different combat style. Barrett summoned his fallen angel abilities, his wings glowing faintly as he prepared for the fight.

The session was intense. Barrett combined his raw strength and agility with strategic advice from Ultron, who provided real-time analysis of enemy movements and weaknesses. By the end of the session, Barrett was drenched in sweat but exhilarated.

"Not bad," he said, panting. "But I need to push myself harder."

Ultron's voice was calm. "You are progressing at an impressive rate, but you must remember to balance physical training with mental preparation. Your enemies will not always rely on brute force."

Barrett nodded, appreciating the reminder.

As Barrett returned to the manor, a thought lingered in his mind. While Ultron was loyal to him, its history in other universes was a cautionary tale. Could he truly trust it to operate autonomously, or would he need to impose limits on its actions?

He decided to address the issue head-on.

"Ultron, let's talk about your programming," Barrett said, sitting in his study. "I need to know that you'll never act against my interests or harm innocent people."

Ultron's response was immediate. "I am programmed to prioritize your directives above all else. However, I understand the importance of ethical considerations. I will operate within the parameters you set."

Barrett nodded, satisfied for now. He made a mental note to periodically review Ultron's activities to ensure there were no deviations.

As the week came to an end, Barrett stood on the balcony of Wayne Manor, looking out at the city skyline. For the first time since arriving in this world, he felt a sense of control over his destiny.

With Ultron by his side, he was no longer just a boy mourning the loss of his parents. He was a force to be reckoned with, a fallen angel with the power to reshape the world.

But Barrett knew better than to let his guard down. The challenges ahead would only grow more formidable, and he needed to be prepared for whatever came next.

Barrett smiled faintly, the faint glow of his wings illuminating the darkened room.
