Chapter 9 - The Perfect Husband.

"Who let you in here?"

King swore he heard the woman who shared his past with him but upon turning, he didnt see her, he saw another person, she was different, and she was beautiful but somewhere deep inside of him, he felt she was the same person he fell in love with. The same person he broke the promise of a future with.

Was it her dark-coloured hair? Or her striking eyes? The way she carried herself that demanded respect? Whoever she was, she was Leonard's new wife and boy was she beautiful.

"Mr Keller, he asked me to come get some files from his study, I am his manager. King Devon." King made his move and extended his arm to her but for a brief second, fear struck across her soft features and he didnt pass up on it. He felt it was because he had stepped forward a bit for the handshake. However, slowly, she took it.

"Mrs Keller. Leonard must really trust you for him to allow you into his house and into his private study." she mused as she walked into the room, her hips swaying gently. King didnt take his eyes off her for a second, in fact, he was holding his breath just watching her. Although he had the same thought, did Leonard trust her so much to allow her into his life?

"Have we met before?" the question slipped out without caution and Skye shot him a raise eyebrow, "you just seem so familiar."

"No. There is none as mesmerising as Vanya." a small smirk came to play before she walked past him, only stopping after they're backing each other, "whoever you think I am, you're sorely mistaken. Please lock the door on your way and tell the servant you are leaving, I will be in my room." and with that, she exited the study room.

King grabbed all the documents he needed and rushed out of the room, locking the door behind him. His eyes caught her moving up the stairs to her bedroom and was tempted to follow her, but he knew that would be a big mistake and decided to control himself. Better to be alive if he wanted to complete his mission. And right now, he needed to get the files to Leonard as soon as possible.

When Skye reached her room, her character faded as her shoulders slumped.

"King? Working for Leonard?" she pulled out her hair and the realization dawned on her, was he really that kind of person? They had been together for years, and she had always viewed him as someone honest and fair but, "Leonard wouldnt hire someone he wouldnt get along with. Or is just a pawn? He didnt recognize me, the makeup works well then but…" Skye was so conflicted. She didnt know what to do. Her ex was working with one of the most wanted criminals, and there was one thing she knew about King, he was never as innocent as he looked.

"Thank you, Mr Blakely. Our cooperation will be nothing but profitable. You can trust KCC for that." Leonard shoo hands with another multimillion dollar client and once the client was led out of his office, he stared at the document with a greedy smile, "another unsuspecting bastard in the hole. Today has been such a good day, I should treat myself." a laugh escaped his lips before a flash of his wife's nudity came into his mind.

It went as quickly as it came, and he wondered if his wife had a good day. Leonard had gotten a new secretary, but none could replace Melvin, however, he had to move on. He was done for the day, there was nothing they needed him for at the office, and he was eager to be with his wife so he exited the high-tech, nearly futuristic HQ of KCC and went straight for his car. He revved the engine and soon was on his way home.

There was no traffic so he reached home without any delay, walking through the door and taking off his tie at the same time, he arrived just in time for dinner but reaching the dinning table, he didnt see his wife there. His brows raised and moved u the stairs to their bedroom you would think that Leonard was the perfect husband, always wanting to check up on his wife, but every man has their agenda and so did he.

"You are not having dinner?" upon opening the door, he saw Skye looking lost, and he wondered what was on her mind.

"I am not hungry." she answered back, and returned to silence. Leonard didnt like the attitude behind it so he moved closer and caught her attention.

"Did you enjoy your shopping spree?" he sat on the couch with hr but not too close to her so she wouldnt move away. She only nodded and didnt say anything else and that was when an idea came to his mind, "we should go out for dinner, get dressed." he believed she was upset with him because he was not spending time with her and decided to make it up to her.

"Where are we going?" she asked him as he walked out of the room, a bit confused as to why he was treating her so well.

"Doesnt matter, you will love with." his response came from downstairs, and she decided to trust him. She got dressed and into his car, he was driving, but she had no idea where they were going and just to be safe, she carried a weapon in her purse. But when they got to the restaurant, the need to use the weapon to feel safe went down the drain.

The restaurant shimmered under soft, golden lighting, casting a warm glow over every polished surface. It was the kind of place where elegance lived in the details—where marble-topped tables gleamed, and plush velvet chairs curved around them like a quiet embrace. Each table was lit by its own delicate lamp, their low flames flickering like whispers.

Leonard and Skye were led to the best seats in the house—tucked near the edge, on top of the roof, offering an unobstructed view of the city skyline wrapped in twilight. They were alone, and The night air was cool and fragrant, stirred gently by the rustle of ornamental trees blooming with white flowers that curled up into the canopy above. From their spot, the city lights looked like fallen stars, and soft jazz hummed in the background, wrapping the entire space in a blanket of calm luxury.

The chequered flooring beneath them was immaculate, stretching like a chessboard toward the sleek, glowing bar in the distance, where bartenders moved like clockwork. Everything about the place was designed to impress without trying too hard—stylish, intimate, and quietly extravagant. Leonard didn't need to ask if Skye liked it. The way her shoulders eased, and her lips curved into a faint smile said it all.

Meals soon followed and Skye was relaxed, as much as she didnt want to admit it. The view was so mesmerizing and when she turned to look at her husband, the soft glow of lights gave him a different aura. He, too, was looking deep into her soul, and it resulted in heat rushing to her cheeks.

"It is beautiful. Thank you for bringing me here." she managed a small smile, and it was a boost to his ego. Without a word, he stood up and held out his hand, unsure for a while, Skye placed hers in his, and he took her to the edge to admire the city from the height.

"Even the city lights can't compare to your beauty my lovely wife. Youre like a goddess that walked right out of a myth, sure our meeting was unprecedented, but you have added a little flavour to my life." his hands snaked around her body and Skye was caught in the beauty of his eyes and his charm. She felt herself melting into him.

This was the love she craved. The one that King denied her of, but from a criminal.

"Leonard that's—" the softness in her voice quickly turned into a high-pitched scream the moment her husband leaned her over the edge, all she was holding on to was his hand as she dangled between life and death. The wind was harsh, a cold reminder that Leonard was not the perfect husband he tried to make himself to be.

"Oh my lovely wife, I have taken a liking to you and i honestly dont want to have to let you go so soon. If you even try to betray my trust in any way," from loving husband, he switched faster than a light switch to something dark and uncertain, all the love in his eyes had vanished, and his voice had deepened. With a hand movement, she could fall from hundreds of feet to her demise but he didnt let her fall, "I will hang you over a hundred stories and watch you fall to your death. I promise you that."
