Chapter 30 - How Dare You

"Huff, Huff, Huff." Shinji ran with all his strength towards his sister's house.

This could be the last time he saw her until things calmed down. If he waited any longer her house would be swarmed with the police.

Shinji arrived and opened the front door in a hurry, effectively startling her sister and Aurora who were watching a tv series.

"What happened Shinji? Something the matter?" Miki worriedly asked.

She saw her brother out of breath, and when she saw his ripped shirt full of blood, her concern doubled.

"Oh my God! What happened to you?" Miki stood from the couch and rushed to his side.

"Miki, something bad happened, I need to get my belongings and get out of here quickly." Shinji made his way to the room he'd stayed in these past few weeks.

While he was packing his belongings, he could hear the little girl behind him.

A pained expression made its way up his face, everything was going so well until that group of villains arrived.

Shinji then paused his movements, 'Maybe this is who I'm meant to be for all of eternity, a killer. There's no space for me anywhere but in the streets.'

He deeply sighed before resuming the task in front of him.

Aurora walked to his side and held his hand, he could feel how worried she was for him.

Even though she didn't know what was happening, she knew that he was leaving, but why?

Shinji could feel the familiar feeling on his chest, this time she spoke to him the word "Liar."

He picked her up into his arms before speaking, "I know that I promised, but it's just too dangerous, and I will have to leave soon, bad people are looking for me."

This seemed to have lit a fire inside her, she started smiling widely and hugging him.

His expression turned to one of amusement, 'I forgot how this girl can be sometimes.'

Slowly putting her down, he resumed his packing.

Just as he was about to finish, the door leading to the house was knocked on, and sirens could be heard outside.

'Damn it! They're here earlier than expected.'

He could hear his sister walking to the front door, she was about to open it.

"Miki don't!" Her hand halted midway as she looked towards her brother.

She got close to him and softly asked, "What did you do? Why is the police here?"

A conflicted expression manifested on his face.

"The police will tell you everything I did, just please trust me that I had no intention of doing so."

"My God Shinji! What are you hiding from me?"

He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

The knocking on the door intensified, and he took that as his sign to leave the house.

"Are you not going to say anything at all?!" Miki desperately asked.

Shame and guilt crept up to his body in the form of trembling.

He opened the back window, and just as he was about to flee, he felt someone hugging him tightly from behind.

It was Aurora, she had a killer grip, the door leading to the house was kicked open by the police and heroes started pouring inside.

There was no time to lose, he jumped out the window with Aurora still hugging his back, and ran away as fast as he could.

The heroes started following him while the police restrained Miki to ask her some questions.

Even though these heroes were not that fast, they could still keep up with him because of the little girl on his back.

He didn't know what would happen, but he definitely wouldn't let her go and use her as a distraction to escape the situation.

About twenty minutes later, they finally lost sight of the heroes. He hid in a nearby alleyway and rested.

Aurora finally released her grip on him and sat by his side. At this point in time, Shinji wasn't even mad at her.

"Listen, in two days I'm going to bring you back to Miki's okay? So for these two days that we're going to be together I just ask that you stay close to me, got it?"

She nodded fervently and they just sat there, in silence.

—----

Two days passed in the blink of an eye, they had gotten used to the same old routine of survival in the alleyways.

When Shinji went out to do his vigilante work, she stood in the sidelines watching him with a big smile on her face.

Now that it was time to return home, she felt a little reluctant to go back.

Even though it had been a short time, she had completely fallen in love with the idea of being a vigilante.

She frequently tugged Shinji's shirt and started punching the air to show her desire to be taught how to fight.

They were almost home, when Shinji got close to his sister's house, he was startled by a familiar purple fog in front of him.

"Greetings, Shinji, we have taken your sister as a hostage, if you want her to live then you will come with me without any resistance."

Shinji's eyes opened widely, he could feel Aurora's worry on the side, she was tightly gripping his shirt.

A frown formed on his face, but was quickly replaced by a serious expression. "What do you want?"

"Come with me and you will find out."
