Karen felt all the skin on her body go numb. What did he really mean? How did he know she was undercover? With a horrified expression, her body began to sweat. Slowly, her face leaned toward Jason, and her fingers began to tighten.
Karen did everything she could to contain her urge to run and asked Jason, "Sorry, what did you mean? I didn't hear you well, can you repeat it?"
When Jason heard Karen's trembling voice, he couldn't help but let out a slight smile. Then he stopped hiding what he knew. "Karen, to be honest, I knew from the first day you arrived here that you were a spy sent by the Governor. Everyone here has just been acting with you."
Upon hearing those words, Karen looked at Jason with a pale face. How could he know she was a spy sent by the Governor? Thinking about it, she couldn't help but ask, "So, did Lina know too?"
"Lina, that girl... I rescued her from the city of Atlanta and brought her here. She was just following my orders." Jason said, holding his forehead and mocking her.
Karen was completely stunned by Jason's response. It turned out that everyone in this prison had been pretending to know her, knowing she was a spy. She finally understood why Lina smiled so many times when she said goodbye to her; she was always in the place these people wanted her to be.
"Then, why didn't you kill me?" After understanding all of this, Karen simply expressed her doubts. There was no longer any chance of escape, which made her feel a bit more relaxed.
Jason crossed his arms, with the same tone as before, and answered, "Karen, let me clear up a misunderstanding. In our group, you and yours play the role of the villains. Do you really know the Governor?"
Karen was shocked by what Jason had just said. In a bewildered tone, she responded, "But the Governor said that you killed one of ours, and that you also wanted to steal our supplies by killing us all in the process! And that woman with the sword... wasn't she undercover in our shelter? Wasn't she sent by you?"
Jason averted his gaze and then explained, "It seems that many of you have been enchanted by the Governor's words. I know you can't believe me with just a few empty words, so I want to show you real evidence."
After saying this, Jason gestured for Karen to follow him, took out his radio, and spoke for a few seconds before heading toward a spacious room.
On the way, Jason glanced at Karen and then took the radio from her. "My apologies, but now that you know the truth, just in case, I need to take this. From now on, you'll be somewhat of a prisoner."
Karen nodded to show her understanding and then followed Jason. Soon, they arrived at the spacious room.
Jason turned on the light, entered, and sat in a chair, then gestured for Karen to sit wherever she wanted. This room was much more sophisticated than the facilities they had arrived at. It had been built for meetings.
There was only a long table, a filing cabinet, and some chalkboards on the sides. Compared to the various security installations outside, this place was quite simple.
Looking at Karen, Jason commented, "It's my habit to give two chances to people who can be useful for the future. You're lucky I still value you."
Karen looked at him silently, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "What's that value in your eyes?"
"Well…" After pausing, Jason said, "I can say that I've been planning many of the things that have happened recently. It's caused difficulties, but I truly don't want to unjustly kill innocent people."
After a while of waiting, footsteps were heard in the hallway outside. There was a knock on the door, and then Rick, Sam, Shane, Marco, Merle, Daryl, and Guillermo entered one by one.
The group sat in various places around the table. Jason indicated that they should settle down and said, "Well, Karen, these people are the current leaders of this prison, and they're in charge of running everything. They're here to make a decision about the place you came from. First, we need to see this."
After saying that, Jason took a small video camera out of a box, opened it, and explained, "Although the internet went down with society, these devices are still useful for things like this."
The images on the camera began to appear in front of Karen. The footage showed a forest, with the camera shaking as if it was on someone's clothes, and then Martínez appeared, who seemed to be the leader of a group. Afterward, Michonne was shown, tied up with a rope.
"Did you say they killed your teammate? Why did they do that?" Jason asked in an inquisitive tone.
As the video played, Karen's face grew paler. When she heard Martínez reveal the Governor's secrets, her face showed such shock that she completely forgot there were other people around.
But that wasn't all. Jason took out a recording pen and played it. The recording contained the conversation between Martínez and the Governor. This had been the listening team that had been placed on Martínez before he left, and a group followed him and recorded the entire conversation before returning.
The conversation explained in detail how the Governor planned to frame Jason and his group, as well as pointing out various atrocities.
When they finished playing all the recordings, Karen, who had been sitting and listening, heard something she never would have imagined. The evidence confirmed her initial suspicions.
Looking at Karen, who had heard the truth, Jason signaled Rick that it was his turn to speak. Some people, like Rick, began to say inspirational words, which made Karen reflect deeply.
Finally, thanks to the words of some of those present, Karen fully understood the situation and the possibilities that were now open to her.
Seeing the pieces of the puzzle fitting together, Jason pointed out: "Karen, you must understand the reason we haven't sent troops to destroy the Governor and his people. There are people in his group who aren't aware of all of this and are innocent."
"They've been deceived by the Governor. He taught them the wrong survival values. This place can protect many more people. Even if it fills up, we can send people to another safe refuge in the city of Atlanta. So now I plan to deal with the problems in Woodbury. Can you help me save those innocent people?"
Karen nodded firmly, looking at Jason with an unusual determination: "As long as you believe in me! I can help you with whatever you tell me!"
Jason nodded and responded, "You're the only one who knows the truth and comes from Woodbury. Your task will be to persuade all the inhabitants of your shelter. They can be brought here without a problem. The only thing you need to tell the Governor is that a group of twelve people will leave the prison tomorrow morning. That's it."
Karen expressed her concern: "The Governor has definitely left secret surveillance nearby. If you go out with more than ten people, there won't be anyone to defend this place."
At that moment, a dry and hoarse laugh suddenly sounded from beside Karen: "Ha, ha, ha! Love, you don't even know how many of us there are."
"Shut up, you should have recorded better. Look at yourself, I don't know where the hell you had the camera," Daryl said as he observed the images on the video camera.
Karen looked to the side and saw Merle and Daryl, talking as if they were arguing, while she heard Rick and Shane's laughter.
"Karen, we don't have twenty people… With our current limitations due to the expansion of the city, we can deploy over five hundred soldiers!"
