Magic.

A phenomenon as ancient as God. While some types of magic originate from the energy of a deity or extremely powerful beings, magic itself does not seem to be inherently tied to any of them, instead being manipulated through the energy present in the environment.

Primordial magic, as Adam named it. A type of magic that relies exclusively on the energy that composes the environment—pure mana manipulation.

There are countless types of magic. In his pursuit of power, Adam studied dozens, if not hundreds. And although he never demonstrated talent—due to the limits imposed by God—he still dedicated time to understanding the general aspects of magic.

Primordial magic, which theoretically should have been the primary form of magic, was rarely used. The reason was simple: its attributes were inferior to other types of magic. Offensive power, defensive capabilities, and technical applications—compared to demonic magic or Merlin's magic, primordial magic lacked all of these.

Adam never understood why. Without the ability to experiment, he had eventually set the matter aside. However, his theory was that without a direct "source," magic lost much of its raw power.

"To think I spent hundreds of years trying…"

It was nighttime, and the moonlight illuminated the sparsely populated streets of the city. Inside his home, Adam sat at a table cluttered with numerous books, flipping through one of them with delicate precision, his eyes sharp with focus.

With no need for sleep, he remained awake through the night to study. Now that the limits on his body had been lifted, he wanted to attempt something that had once frustrated him—something that had been denied to him: magic.

"Only for it to be so simple."

—!

Without any drama or suspense, with a mere flick of his hand, a magic circle formed before him, floating gently, radiating a faint magical glow.

It was simple—a weak magic barrier that utilized an equation Adam had memorized long ago.

Contrary to his expectations, it turned out to be so easy that he didn't even feel excited. Besides, there were no more wars to fight or enemies to hunt. It was an achievement, sure, but after everything, Adam saw no reason to jump for joy.

Still, it was refreshing to know that he now had the capacity to grow.

"Alright."

Dismissing the magic circle, Adam examined his fingers with fascination, feeling a fraction of his mana being utilized.

It had been some time since he noticed that his vital energy, besides keeping him alive, was now rapidly circulating through his body, strengthening him in the process. It was as if a tiny hole in a dam had existed before, but now, the floodgates had been completely opened, allowing the water to rush freely.

It was an exhilarating sensation.

His body, once pale and seemingly weak due to isolation, had recovered to the point where there were no visible signs of frailty—except for a slight lack of muscle definition… Something he intended to fix soon.

"I should test the other types now."

With a confident smile, he snapped his fingers.

Having studied nearly every type of magic, he had memorized runes, equations, and even the fundamental principles behind demonic magic. His knowledge wasn't profound, but it was sufficient for conducting some tests.

Certainly, he wouldn't be getting any rest that night.

Adam, unconcerned about concealing his mana usage, remained oblivious to the mysterious figure watching his house from the rooftop of a nearby building.

Glowing violet eyes gleamed dangerously before the figure turned and vanished with the sound of dark wings flapping.

Having just taken a shower, Adam dried himself off and put on a simple set of clothes. Nothing flashy, yet his supernatural beauty made them look more refined than they actually were.

Today marked the beginning of his plan to save Saki Yoshida—the poor girl fated for a dark future.

And how would he do that? Well, with a direct approach, of course!

Adam was never the kind of man to hesitate over trivial matters like this. He knew Saki was a recluse with no friends and that her desire to form connections was what ultimately led her to change so drastically.

So, to solve the entire problem in the most straightforward way, he would approach her and start a friendship. Over time, with his help, Saki would grow more confident and independent, reaching the point where Adam wouldn't need to worry about her being manipulated by others.

Of course, this would make her dependent on him, considering how she had changed after just one intimate encounter with a stranger. But it was better that it was him, someone who genuinely wanted her well-being, rather than some random guy.

Manipulating someone to prevent them from being manipulated… It might seem immoral, but Adam truly didn't care. To him, the method didn't matter as long as the result was good.

Leaving his house, Adam observed his recently cleaned yard with satisfaction… But as he turned to look at the house itself, that satisfaction vanished when he noticed cracks running along the walls—signs of degradation caused by time and neglect.

"I still don't know how, after all this time, no one has come to check on this place."

Scratching his chin, he shrugged and began walking down the sidewalk.

With a few gazes directed at him, Adam could only ignore them as he continued his path. He hadn't introduced himself to his neighbors yet, but he planned to do so soon. It was getting tiresome to constantly be on the receiving end of lingering stares… Though he doubted that would change even after he introduced himself.

Noticing the predatory gazes of some women, he quickened his pace. Memories of being mistaken for the Greek sun god resurfaced, making him sigh.

"Not like I'm not used to it."

Continuing along his way, he navigated through his memories, arriving at Saki's house before long.

It was still early, and students were just starting to leave their homes—meaning he had some time to wait.

And so, he decided to reflect on this world.

Gods, dragons, demons, fallen angels, magic… It wasn't a coincidence.

If Sacred Gears weren't just remnants of his memories, then Adam had a strong hunch about the world he had found himself in.

"Sacred Gears" wasn't a common term, and he distinctly remembered hearing it while watching DxD. The descriptions also matched perfectly, making it impossible for this to be just a coincidence.

From the looks of it, the primary setting of this world was from a story he had once known as DxD—a realization that made Adam sigh.

It was a series he never appreciated much, mainly because he had only watched a few episodes before merging.

Fortunately, despite seemingly serving as the base for the universe, it wasn't the only series present, given Saki and Akira's existence.

This world had much more than just endless supernatural faction wars… And that gave Adam a bit of relief.

He was accustomed to battle, but after everything that had happened, it wasn't strange that he wanted to stay away from it all for a while.

With so much room for improvement and a new set of abilities to explore, he didn't want to involve himself with the big leagues just yet.

If possible, he wanted to stay away from everything supernatural until he was strong enough.

He was no longer a man seeking revenge or a failure who had given up on everything… He could very well enjoy life—perhaps even recover at least a fraction of the thousands of years he had lost.

Of course, he still wanted to become powerful enough that nothing could threaten him—that nothing from the past would repeat itself.

But hey, slowing things down for a bit wasn't so bad.

"Ha…"

He let out a short laugh.

"I'm heading out!"

But before he could reflect any further, Adam turned toward the house as someone stepped outside, his eyes following a small girl with braided hair as she walked away, clearly disheartened.

That made Adam smile gently, empathy filling his gaze before he took a step forward.

"Hey!"

As he called out to her, he watched her head turn slowly toward him.

"You're the girl who's been watching me, aren't you?"

And as he saw her face fill with a storm of emotions, Adam suppressed a chuckle, his understanding gaze resting upon her embarrassed expression—one that practically screamed the desire to disappear.

Socially awkward to a fault.

"It's a pleasure."

Taking a step closer, he flashed a brilliant smile—one that immediately shut down Saki's brain.

"My name is Adam."
