Sienna's POV
Elena crossed her arms. "Try harder. If the Midnight Queen is really coming, we need you at full strength."
I took a big breath, thinking about what Isolde had told me. Ruby Wolves managed more than just fire. They controlled blood.
I closed my eyes, feeling the pulse of my heartbeat, picturing the blood flowing through my veins. When I opened my eyes again, both hands were engulfed in perfect, steady fire.
Elena nodded approvingly. "Better. Now aim for that boulder."
I thrust my hand forward, and a blast of fire shot out, hitting the rock dead center. The rock cracked but didn't shatter.
"Again," Elena pushed. "Hotter this time."
I focused, remembering how Kieran had looked yesterday, dark veins covering his body as he controlled the fallen rocks. He was accepting his curse to protect others. I could do the same with my gifts.
The next blast turned the rock white-hot before it exploded into a thousand pieces.
Elena actually smiled. "Now that's more like it."
