CHAPTER 87

087 Pokémon Intermediate Heracross, A Draw! The Final Battle

"Light of Evolution!"

The president of Yongji University slowly uttered these words, his voice filled with shock. The sudden evolution of Qin Yun's Heracross was something no one had anticipated not even Qin Yun himself.

"Evolved?"

Qin Yun's tone carried both disbelief and excitement.

"That's incredible, Heracross just took a major leap forward."

It was truly an unexpected development. Heracross was the most recent addition to Qin Yun's team, yet it had advanced first, surpassing even his older, more experienced Pokémon that had yet to reach the Elite Intermediate stage. This was completely outside Qin Yun's calculations and expectations.

In official battle regulations, if a Pokémon evolves mid-battle, the match is temporarily halted until the transformation is complete and the Pokémon is confirmed to be in fighting condition.

The saffron glow surrounding Heracross gradually faded, revealing its fully evolved form. As its pupils became visible once more, the audience collectively held their breath.

Heracross had not only evolved but had also exited the Saiyan Contest Condition.

This presented both advantages and drawbacks. The good news was that Heracross had achieved a breakthrough, increasing its base stats and overall combat potential. The downside, however, was that the immediate benefits of its previous heightened state had dissipated, leaving it temporarily weakened.

Despite this, Qin Yun couldn't suppress his excitement.

"Fantastic job, Heracross!"

"Hera!"

Heracross let out a triumphant cry, its newfound power evident in its stance.

"So it actually evolved…"

Master Wu watched with a mixture of admiration and wariness.

"Indeed."

"Congratulations."

A genuine smile appeared on Master Wu's face. Despite being Qin Yun's opponent, he couldn't help but appreciate such a remarkable moment.

"Thank you."

Master Wu then pointed out the situation with sharp analysis.

"However, evolution forced Heracross out of that Contest Condition earlier than expected. That means the outcome of this battle is still up in the air."

Qin Yun nodded, acknowledging the truth in his words.

"That's true, but my Heracross won't back down."

"Neither will my Medicham."

The two trainers exchanged smiles.

This was what Pokémon battles were all about—not just victory or defeat, but the sheer thrill of competition.

With the referee's signal, the battle resumed. Both Pokémon returned to their positions, ready to continue their clash.

This time, Heracross no longer displayed the overwhelming speed and aggression it had earlier. Recognizing the shift, Master Wu took advantage by transitioning Medicham to a long-range combat strategy, using its superior agility and well-honed techniques.

Qin Yun, however, remained composed.

While Heracross had lost its Saiyan Contest Condition, its overall base attributes had increased significantly due to its evolution, now matching Medicham in raw power.

As the battle progressed, both Pokémon gave it their all, exchanging powerful blows until finally, both collapsed from sheer exhaustion.

"It's a draw!"

Neither Qin Yun nor Master Wu held anything back.

"That was intense!"

"Yeah! Both Qin Yun and Master Wu displayed incredible battle instincts."

"Even if I had a Pokémon of similar strength, I doubt I could last more than a few moves against them."

The audience was in awe. The fight had exceeded their expectations, demonstrating the depth of strategy and skill required for high-level Pokémon battles.

And yet, the match was still undecided.

"Now, it all comes down to the final battle. This is the tiebreaker."

"I wonder what surprises it will bring."

The number of spectators had swelled significantly. What had started as a modest crowd had now grown to three or four times its original size. The word had spread, drawing more and more people eager to witness the spectacle.

The referee, despite his professionalism, found his hands trembling slightly—not from nervousness, but from sheer excitement.

"The final match is about to begin."

Qin Yun and Master Wu locked eyes.

Though they both claimed that winning wasn't the most important thing, neither of them wanted to lose.

"Come forth, Toxicroak!"

A burst of light revealed Master Wu's next Pokémon.

[Pokémon: Toxicroak]

[Type: Poison/Fighting]

[Ability: Dry Skin (Restores HP in rain and when hit by Water-type moves. Takes extra damage in sunny conditions and from Fire-type moves.)]

[Strength: Late Intermediate Stage]

[Potential: Mid-Level]

[Moves: Nasty Plot, Toxic, Poison Barb, Sludge Bomb, Poison Jab, Venoshock]

[Pokédex Entry: Toxicroak, the evolution of Croagunk. The poisonous sac in its throat produces a highly potent toxin. When it makes a sound, the accumulated poison becomes even deadlier.]

"Toxicroak, huh?"

Seeing the Pokémon, Qin Yun immediately recalled Brock's Croagunk from the anime, particularly how it always ambushed him with its Poison Jab.

Since Toxicroak was primarily a Poison-type Pokémon, Qin Yun had already decided on his counter.

"I was originally going to use Kirlia, but…"

He hesitated for a moment before making up his mind.

"Alright then! Go, Fomantis!"

"Dodo!"

A small, green figure emerged onto the battlefield, drawing mixed reactions from the audience.

"Fomantis? Really?"

Even Master Wu was surprised.

Most had expected Qin Yun to send out his Kirlia, which had proven to be a formidable force in his previous battles. Kirlia was a Psychic/Fairy-type, which would have been an excellent counter to Toxicroak's Fighting and Poison attributes.

Instead, Qin Yun had chosen Fomantis, his weakest Pokémon.

"A Grass-type against my Toxicroak… interesting."

Master Wu observed Fomantis closely, his expression turning serious.

If it had been any other trainer's Fomantis, he wouldn't have been concerned in the slightest. However, this was Qin Yun's Pokémon. That alone was reason enough to take it seriously.

Meanwhile, in the audience, a certain individual was watching with particular excitement Miss Hua, the journalist who had previously covered Qin Yun's battles.

"Fomantis again…"

She had written extensively about how Qin Yun had relied on this Pokémon in his last major match. If it could secure another victory here, it would make for a sensational follow-up story.

"Alright, battle begin!"

The match was officially underway.

This time, Qin Yun made the first move.

Knowing that Toxicroak had access to Nasty Plot a move that could sharply boost its Special Attack he was determined not to give it the time to set up.

"I have to shut it down before it gains momentum."

With that thought in mind, he launched his attack.

The decisive final battle had begun.
