The castle's dining hall was spacious with high ceilings. From above, two large oil-lamp chandeliers hung on thick iron chains. In the center stood a long, narrow dining table.
A dark blue cloth was draped over the table, and plain wooden chairs were arranged around it. The lighting was dim, but just enough to make the room visible. A heavy and quiet atmosphere filled the hall.
Ravien sat right in the middle of the table. Asogi was on his right, Haldvir on his left. No one spoke, all of them silently waiting for Jiho to bring the food. Ravien tapped the table lightly with his fingertips — tik tik tik.
Jiho first placed the plates and forks, then quietly turned and went back to fetch the food.
Ravien tilted his head slightly toward Haldvir.
"Tell me, Haldvir, are you struggling with your current duties?"
Haldvir was briefly taken aback by the sudden question, but quickly collected himself and answered honestly.
"No, my lord. Aside from the cleaning, I'm managing well."
